From the Principal
School has started well for the year, and I trust that is true for your child, especially if they are here for the first time. I have just returned from the opening of Brewarrina Christian School (a member of our Melos Foundation group of schools). Twelve students from Year 3 – 8 turned up and there was a sense of excitement but also trepidation as they started in a brand-new school as its first students. Green Point Christian College has been instrumental in forming a group of schools in NSW who will work together to support each other. BCS is the newest member of the group.
In the excitement (and trepidation) of a school year commencing, it is still important to keep in mind what the purpose of schooling is. GPCC has a purpose statement that tries to capture what we see schooling is for.
‘The purpose of Green Point Christian College is to equip students for a life of redemptive action through a holistic education grounded in a Biblical perspective’.
This statement is focused on our Christian belief that God created the world and humankind, everything was perfect, and God only required of the first humans that they obey a single command. A test, if you like, of their willingness to submit to his authority as the Creator of life and to live life the way he planned for them. They failed, and so a separation occurred between God, humanity and the creation that led to suffering and decay.
But God has been working out a plan to restore (redeem) humanity and the world. That plan involved Jesus Christ who came to model for us what humanity should be like and to pay the penalty for our forebears’ disobedience. Through faith in Christ, we can be reunited with God, given a fresh start and can set about learning to live as he intended with Jesus as our example.
At GPCC, we teach our students this account of human history and invite them to participate in God’s redemptive plan for the human race and his amazing creation. We want them to grow in understanding and wisdom, so that they may use their gifts in a way that restores the world and blesses others.
I trust that this year, we can see many students embracing this vision of life and growing in Godly character as they do so. In partnership with you, we want to them to flourish in life and be everything God made them to be. This may be a new concept to you so feel free to come and talk to us about what this looks like.
Remember that as we partner together in education, coming to talk to us early is important as we work out any issues or problems your child may be experiencing. Our door is always open and we will do our best to help your child have a positive experience at GPCC.
