Mr Steve Lobsey | Head of Secondary
June 1 marks the start of a fundraiser called 'The Push-Up Challenge'. From June 1-23, participants do 3,144 push-ups, with that number representing the number of lives lost to suicide in 2021. We have a team made up of teachers and Years 11 and 12 students doing the challenge to raise awareness of mental health issues. If you would like to sponsor the team, you can do so at: https://www.thepushupchallenge.com.au/fundraisers/gpcc
The website will let you support out team generally, or you can choose one of the team members and sponsor them.
There a lot of great things happening at Green Point. Staff are engaging in learning walks, where they visit other classrooms to see how students are learning and to share ideas. We have many students participating in sporting events and our students have been successful in the Model UN and Ethics Olympiad. Often, it is the smaller, simple things that help make the school a wonderful place. I was pleased to see the efforts of Mrs Fordyce’s Equip class who produced this street artwork with chalk. Each time I walk past it, I am reminded of the great ideas and opportunities available at Green Point and more importantly, I take a moment to see how I and those around me are fearfully and wonderfully made.
Camp Rock School Musical
Camp Rock the Musical, is happening Week 10: Wednesday, Thursday, Friday night 7:00pm 28-30 June, with Matinees on Thursday and Friday at 12pm (TBC). Tickets will be available from Trybooking shortly.
Ethics Olympiad
In a fabulous effort, our team came 7th out of 18 schools in our section of the Olympiad and we received an Honourable Mention from the Judges (one of only six schools to receive a mention).
The students were articulate, polite, and persuasive throughout, and were an incredible example of what 'critical and creative thinking' from our Graduate Attributes means.
I am immensely proud of the whole team.
Well done to Lily M, Tirzah H, Isaiah F, Matilda W and also Luke J, who was unfortunately unwell on the day, but was involved in the team preparation work.

Josie Mitchell Debating Competition
On Wednesday 31 May, five year 7 students (Alyssa C, Grace A, Aimee J, Brianna F and Isla W) travelled to St Brigid’s College in Lake Munmorah to compete in the annual stage 4 Josie Mitchell debating competition.
The competition started at 9:00am and we were ready for our first debate. The five of us worked hard and fast on our arguments and rebuttals. The first debate of the day was on the topic 'Social media should be taught as a subject in school'. In this, we were on the negative team and we unfortunately lost, but straight away we began preparing for our second debate of the day: 'Humans should colonise other planets'. This time we were affirmative. We worked hard once again on our rebuttals and arguments and came out with a win!
The last debate of the day was impromptu and the topic was: 'Wheels are a better invention than doors'. For this third and final debate we were negative and got 40 minutes to work on our speeches before we were then called up. We were all so excited when we found out that we had yet again won the debate! At the end of the day, we came away with 2 out of 3 wins and St Joseph’s took home the trophy for the third year in a row. We said our goodbyes and then hit the road. Overall, it was such a great experience, and we can’t wait to compete next year.
Hopefully we can take home the trophy and break Joey’s winning streak of three years in a row.
