CSSA Primary Cross Country Carnival

The weather was quite chilly last Friday for the CSSA Primary Cross Country, held at the Sydney Equestrian Centre.

We had 31 students compete at this event and the results were fantastic! The kids all gave 100% in their event, running hard at the start to get a good position before heading down the hill, getting into a good rhythm for the main part of the race, before trying to finish strong and put in the hard strides at the end.

With such good performances, we even had some students break the Top 10, qualifying for the CIS Cross Country Championships:

  • Indy B: 9yrs Girls - 8th place
  • Jiya M 12yrs Girls - 9th place

The Team Results were also amazing:

  • 9yrs Girls 2nd place
  • 10yrs Girls 10th place
  • 11yrs Girls 10th place
  • 12yrs Girls 2nd place
  • 9yrs Boys 3rd place
  • 10yrs Boys 5th place
  • 11yrs Boys 7th place

Congratulations to all of the runners for their efforts on the day and for representing GPCC so well.

 Mr Lambert

Netball Training with Charli Fidler

Last Monday both the Junior and Senior Netball teams had the opportunity to attend an hour-long training session with Charli Fidler. Charli is a NSW Netball Player and Giants training partner.

It was a great opportunity to watch and learn additional tips and tricks for our students as they prepare to play at the THACCCSA Gala Day next week in Tamworth.

Individual Sport Trials for Primary CSSA and CIS Teams

These trials are not for GPCC school teams that we trial here at school to play at certain gala days throughout the year (as mentioned above). The CSSA or CIS trials are usually held in Sydney and students will be trialling against students from either other Christian Schools (CSSA) or other Independent Schools (CIS) and are usually recommended for those students that compete at a representative level.

Please email Mr McSwan before these dates if your child (Years 5 and 6 only) would like to be considered. They need to be currently playing in the sport and have several years’ experience (preferably at a Representative level): Parents are required to transport students to and from these trials.

CSSA and CIS Sport trial dates TERM 2:

Wednesday 14 June - CIS Boys Rugby Union Trials (Year 5 and 6 only):       Nominations close 7 June

Dates for your Calendar

Years 7 - 12 Sport Co-ordinator

I have really enjoyed organising Sport in the Secondary School this year. It is a big job with the college covering many sports and levels of competition.

Just a reminder that students must 'sign up' to register to try out for teams and extra curricular activities.

Students can sign themselves up through Student Café – in this case parents will receive an email asking them to approve their registration in parent lounge.
You will find this on Parent Lounge - Extra Curricular – Activity – Sign Up Now.

If are signing your child up on their behalf - Please follow the same prompts by signing into parent lounge. You must ensure you click ‘Submit to School’ or it will not register.

And parents please login ASAP to parent lounge to ACCEPT or DECLINE any Events or Sporting activities so it is easier for the school to organise as soon as possible.

CIS AFL Championships

Congratulations to Scarlett S (Year 9) who competed in the CIS U15 AFL Championships in Albury. They won all their matches but one, losing the final game. It was a great experience for Scarlett to represent CIS and play with and against the best players in the state.

CSSA Secondary Cross Country Carnival

Last Friday, a team of almost 40 students represented Green Point Christian College at the CSSA State Cross Country at the International Equestrian Centre at Horsley Park. It was a very chilly day with the cold wind blowing off the Blue Mountains. Nonetheless, our team of athletes ran with great enthusiasm and drive. All of our students performed commendably and the following students made it through to NSW CIS (Combined Independent Schools) by placing top 10 in their age group:

  • Macauley D (5th place – 12 years)
  • Alexandra H (3rd place – 12 years)
  • Chase C (5th place – 13 years)
  • Emily F (8th place – 14 years)
  • Jonathon L (2nd place – 15 years)
  • Raj S (7th place – 15 years)
  • Henry C (10th place – 16 years)
  • Wade B (1st place – 17 years)
  • Owen P (7th place – 17 years)
  • Ondine W (8th place – 17 years)
  • Angelique A (4th place – 18+ years)
  • Sinaed W (5th place – 18+ years)
  • Eloise H (6th place – 18+ years)

The following teams placed 1st in the Teams Event and will also be competing at the NSW CIS carnival on Thursday 8 June:

  • 12 Years Boys (Macauley D, Luca W, Xavier B-M, Charles R)
  • 13 Years Boys (Chase C, Jason P, Jasper P, Joshua F)
  • 15 Years Boys (Jonathon L, Raj S, Tyson S, Zaid AG)

We wish our CIS competitors all the very best as they represent GPCC at the NSWCIS Carnival.

Mountain Bike Competition

Congratulations to our students that took place in the MTB race for 2023 Focus Bikes NSW School Series at GLenrock Mountain Bike park.

The race was firstly an cross country event where they had to do 4 laps, close to one hour of peddling. The second part was called the Funduro where they could ride other trails.

Our school didn’t place but there were probably 500 students riding across approximately 50 schools, lots of stiff competition but a great day overall.
