We are calling for volunteers for some simple sewing, straight stitching for Wakakirri costumes.

Sewing packs will be put together by Mrs McKeown ready to take home.

The more sewers we can get the less work. Please contact rmckeown@gpcc.nsw.edu.au if you are able to assist.

Ripples Central Coast Writers Festival 

On Friday 2 June, Years 5 and 6 Extension English students attended ‘Ripples’ at Umina Surf Live Saving Club. This event is part of the annual Central Coast Writers’ Festival, 'Words On The Waves'.

The students enjoyed presentations by Australian authors Samantha Tidy (The Day We Built The Bridge), Craig Silvey (Runt), Nat Amooreand and Mike Barry (We Run Tomorrow).

Sam talked about the history of the Harbour Bridge, and challenged the students to build a truss bridge from toothpicks and mini marshmallows.

Craig shared excerpts from his novel, explained the importance of developing characters before writing a story and answered numerous questions from the students.

Nat and Mike finished off the day with some humorous stories and explained the collaborative process behind their latest novel/graphic novel hybrid. They shared the essential ingredients for a graphic novel: moments and momentum.

The students enjoyed a lunch break at Umina Recreation Precinct. They also waited patiently for  authors’ autographs and some special photo opportunities.
