    Staff Member of the Week
    20231018_082545.jpg

Our Staff Member of the Week Award was awarded to Mr Michael Samild.

Michael agreed to collapse Year 10 English classes to cover another teacher during an unexpected absence, doubling the number of students he had and allowing the other teacher to be free from lesson prep.

Michael has volunteered to cover NCCD oversight in English when there was a gap earlier this year.

He regularly shares resources that he has developed or creative ideas he has for lessons, fostering collaboration and collegiality amongst staff.

He washes up each day for the English staff, collecting dirty mugs and serving without comment in this way.

Earlier this year, Michael took an all-boys Year 10 English elective for five weeks, to support staffing in English and to allow staff new to English to take smaller classes as they adapted to this new space.

Generally, Michael is always willing to serve others in quiet ways.

    Award

    Nomination 1

    Community & Citizenship

Grace M- volunteers every Monday night at kibble park Gosford to help look after our less privileged and homeless on the coast supplying food and clothing. She enjoys serving others and has a great heart for others. Grace participates in Ninja warrior and Boxing training outside of school.

Gabe B- attended the Year 9 Brewarrina mission trip where he met and interacted with the local community. He really enjoyed this trip on a personal level. Gabe has received academic excellence awards for the last 2 years and he is studying for his pilot licence on weekends. Gabe placed first in his division at NSW Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) state titles earlier this year. Here is a young man who is laying a foundation for great future success.

    Performing Arts

Olivia B- was chosen to lead the school Wakakirri performance. The school made it to the state finals and this performance has been chosen as a national finalist. Olivia danced beautifully and was a wonderful storyteller throughout. She should be very proud of the talent displayed and her commitment to this significant undertaking

    Academic achievement

Talan P- in Year 11, and his partner both put in a great effort in creating a business idea which was presented in the form of a written report and visual display for Business Studies. They showed maturity and insight and presented a quality display with great information.

Sanjay S- in Year 11, and his partner both put in a great effort in creating a business idea which was presented in the form of a written report and visual display for Business Studies. They showed maturity and insight and presented a quality display with great information.

    Leadership

Alex B- is a new prefect and is exhibiting leadership in this space. On prefect camp, we looked at developing portfolios for leadership and Alex was quick and articulate in expressing the need for a focus on cultural acceptance and a space for students to develop their own voice. I would recommend him for the Leadership award and am looking forward to seeing him grow in his leadership. Alex often does the Acknowledgement for official assemblies and also wrote his own Acknowledgement for the AECG Meeting at Green Point. We know he will achieve great things.

Samuel C- is a polite and cheerful student who demonstrates his caring nature by helping his peers when they need assistance. Samuel encourages other students during group work. He is a helpful and mature leader, supporting the College as a Prefect. He is courteous, resilient and demonstrates self-control and initiative.

    Sporting Achievement

Raj S- plays high level cricket for Sydney University, Green Shield and Bradman cup. Raj has also represented Green Point Christian College in many sporting fields this year including Soccer, Basketball, Athletics and Cross Country. Raj has excellent fitness and drives his peers towards greater sporting accomplishments.

Aliyah I- has played at a state level with 20-year-olds for soccer and is trying out for a national team. She was a part of a select group that was sent to Sydney for the Women FIFA comp. Aliyah also represented the college at CSSA State Athletics in the Javelin and in the Senior Girls Oztag and AFL Teams. She is an amazing around sportswoman.

    Dedication to learning

    (Primary)

Georgia W- strives to challenge herself and always shows determination to complete set tasks to a high level. She is doing well with her reading and writing and always completes her homework. Georgia requested work from the teacher when the family went to Northern Territory. She is conscientious and eagerly involved in all aspects of school.

Indy B- has made steady progress across all learning areas throughout this year. She is a considerate and empathic friend who shows care and respect to those around her. Indy is working on minimising distraction and improving listening skills. Indy is a keen sportsperson and excels at gross motor skills. She should be very proud of her achievements in athletics.

    Dedication to learning

    (Secondary)

Grace W is in the top English class and has shown initiative and confidence when participating in class discussions, has achieved consistently high results and shows diligence and commitment to her studies in this subject.

Lilly B has received ten compliments this term for effort & enthusiasm for learning. She has many strengths both in the classroom and on the sporting field. Lilly continues to strive to achieve her personal best in all her learning.

    An Invitation to the community

A CHRISTMAS GATHERING FOR THOSE IN THE COMMUNITY WHO HAVE LOST LOVED ONES.

The gathering will be a time of meeting together with others who are experiencing bereavement to honour loved ones who are no longer with us. We aim to provide an open door to the community so that all those who are grieving can know that there is a place where their pain will be acknowledged, validated and supported, especially during this Christmas season.

The event will take the form of an informal Christmas gathering and will include music, readings, poetry and a short message of hope. Morning tea is provided.

The gathering is an initiative of Mosaic, a group of people from diverse backgrounds who join together monthly to support one another through bereavement. It is an informal time of listening, learning and sharing our stories with others. All those who are experiencing bereavement are welcome to join the group.

    YOU ARE NOT ALONE.
