THACCCSA ZONE STAGE 2 AND STAGE 3 BASKETBALL GALA DAYS

Junior Boys Team

The Stage 2 Boys Basketball team put in an extraordinary performance on Wednesday. On the day, the boys played 3 brilliant games of basketball resulting in 1 win,1 draw and 1 loss. The boys missed out on competing in the Semi-finals by 1 point which was awarded to an opposing team on the buzzer. Michael and Luca put in an exceptional performance on the day and Enzo’s basketball skills were noteworthy as he put in a striking effort in each game.

Mr Gibbins

Junior Girls Team

Students from Stage 2 travelled to Broadmeadow Basketball Stadium to compete against other Christian Schools in the THACCCSA region. The girls’ team built on their comradery, spirit, and energy played in two tense games which had many of us experiencing a rollercoaster of emotions. Unfortunately, despite our determination and competitive nature, our inability to pick up baskets after promising play meant that we came off second best to both Belmont and Mid Coast Christian School.

Though our girls may not have secured victory on the day, I am extremely proud of the way they carried themselves as a team and the way they represented the College on the day; a notable accolade worth celebrating I believe.

I’d like to congratulate Remy B-W, Emily C, Annabella C, Lucy G, Bella L, Chloe L, Alice M, and Josie R, on their representation of the College at this level.

Mr Moody

Senior Boys Team

Game 1: Won 10-9 against Charlton

    • Charlton missed 1 of 2 Free Throws to give us the win at the end.

Game 2: 8-6 against Hunter

    • We scored 8 in the 1st half and held onto the lead in the 2nd

Game 3: Beat MidCoast

    • The boys showed a complete game playing both excellent offence and defence in both halves

Game 4: Lost to Tamworth (eventual winners) by 1

    • The boys put in a great effort against one of the best players in the tournament doing a great job of slowing him down.
    • Were always able to reply with a basket themselves after being scored against.

Semi: Lost to Belmont

    • Put in a great effort after going down 0-6 early to tie it up 8-8 with a couple of minutes left. Then a couple of their best players locked it up scoring two quick baskets

Notable players

    • Noah W - Could drive to the rim whenever he wanted for a layup
    • Jaxon - Seemed to be everywhere at once. Would be weaving between players to score and stealing the ball against a fastbreak at the same time.
    • Hamish L - Played as if he was 7ft tall grabbing rebounds constantly.

Mr Sneyd

Senior Girls Team

The senior girls basketball team played the zone basketball on Wednesday October 11th at Newcastle. Being the reigning champions, the girls were expected to do well. In the first match, the team started off sluggishly taking a while to gel. The more the game progressed, the more the team found their groove running out comfortable winners. The second pool game, the girls got it into gear from the jump and ran away with the victory unchallenged. The third game was a repeat of the second, this time the defensive intensity picked up forcing numerous turnovers from the opposition. The girls completed the pool games finishing first and qualifying for the semi-finals.

In the semi-finals, the girls met with stiffer opposition from Charlton Christian last year’s grand finalists. After a tight first half, the girls ran away with it in the end winning comfortably. In the grand final, the girls faced Maitland Christian college who were also undefeated. Maitland were much taller and bigger than our team. This didn’t deter the team at all, the girls left their best performance for the grand finale, winning by a comfortable 30+ point margin. To put it into context how dominant the girls were throughout the day, in the five matches played, the senior girls gave up only 3 points the whole day. Outstanding contributions from the whole team with everybody standing out at some point throughout the day. Congratulations to Mia D, Lily, Danni, Mia V, Jess, Jiya, Ruth, Sibella, Alleah and Piper. The girls now move onto the CSSA State Gala Day in November.
