Beach Safety Days

This week students in Years 3-6 attended Surf Safety Days at Terrigal Beach. We were blessed with favourable weather for most of the week and the students had a wonderful experience learning about surf safety, playing beach games and paddling in the water.

The instructors mentioned that GPCC students were the best school they had worked with this year.

I’d like to thank the teachers for supervising and for the students for excellent behaviour and respect shown throughout each day.

CSSA State Year 5/6 Girls Basketball Gala Day

On Monday 13 November we had our team of Years 5/6 superstar girls travel to Penrith to play in the CSSA State Basketball Gala Day. Having dominated at Zone level, the girls expected a much greater challenge at this event with the only way through to the finals was to top their Pool.

Not only did the girls top their Pool but they again showed their class, exceptional skill and humility by convincingly beating other teams to make it through to the semi-finals and eventually the Grand Final to be crowned State Champions.

Mr Vartan (coach) reports that ‘It was scary how well the girls played. The referee of the GF mentioned to me after the GF, the girls would probably beat the boys’ grand finalists as well. Even suggested we should have entered the boys comp J J. I am passionate about girls being recognised and it being ok to want to win. What was incredibly rewarding was seeing how the girls won with such grace and humility. Even during the GF, they were so encouraging towards their opponents’

I’d like to thank Mr Vartan for the time he put into training and coaching the team over the last two years, Mr Sneyd for travelling down for the day and to the parents for making sure the girls made training sessions and for transporting the girls to the CSSA tournament.

Finally, to the girls, congratulations on such a wonderful achievement and for representing the College in such a fine manner.

Results:

Game 1: Win against Penrith 52-5

Game 2: Win against Greenacre 40-4

Game 3: Win against Northern Beaches 34-0

Semi-Final: Win against Oxford Falls 26-3

Grand Final: Win against Covenant 34-2
