GPCC Primary Swimming Carnival
Thank you to all the competitors, parents, teachers and House Captains for making our GPCC Primary Swimming Carnival such a success. It was wonderful to see so many great performances in the pool and hear encouraging chanting and cheering from each House too.
We look forward to taking a squad to the THACCCSA Zone Swimming Carnival on Thursday February 22 in Newcastle where many children will have the chance to showcase their skills once more. I aim to confirm the team for this event by early next week.
A huge congratulations to Cleo M for breaking a record for the 8-year girls 50m Breaststroke with a time of 56.18. What a great achievement from Cleo. Well done!
Once House points and Age Champion positions have been calculated, medals will be presented at Chapel in the coming weeks.

Expressions of interest for CSSA and HZSA Duathlon/Triathlon
This is an event for those in Years 3-6. Please see the information provided below. It is important to note that this is different from the biathlon event which has been run in previous years and includes a cycle leg. Parents will be required to coordinate a team of students to participate in their age group prior to contacting Mr McSwan.
Parents will also be required to transport their child and gear (bike) to and from the event.
Please let Mr McSwan know via email smcswan@gpcc.nsw.edu.au if you would like to enter a team, which event they will be competing in and which leg each competitor will be completing by Friday 22 March.
Soccer Skills Acquisition Program
We are delighted to announce that former Socceroo Jason van Blerk, will be bringing his Football Academy to GPCC starting in Week 3 of Term 1 in 2024. The program will run over all four terms in 2024. It is a skill based acquisition program to cater for all levels of the beautiful game. With 35 years of experience in Australia and in Europe, Jason’s program is designed to take your child to the next level. GPCC Sport Teams
We are looking forward to sending our teams to a number of Gala Days and competitions in Primary this year.
Students will have a chance to trial for certain school teams over the coming terms and will need to keep a close eye on the notices and listen out for Assembly announcements for when trials will be held.
The protocol for team selection is as follows:
- Teams have at least 2-3 trials before final selection.
- Unfortunately, it is simply not possible for all children who trial to be included in final teams. It is not uncommon for 60 students to trial for a team that only has 10 spots available.
- Once teams have been chosen, they will aim to have at least one training session each week before a competition.
Individual Sport Trials for Primary CSSA and CIS Teams (NOT GPCC teams)
These trials are not for GPCC school teams that we trial for here at school to play at certain gala days throughout the year (as mentioned above). The CSSA or CIS trials are usually held in Sydney and students will be trialling against students from either other Christian Schools (CSSA) or other Independent Schools (CIS) and are usually recommended for those students that compete at a representative level.
Please email Mr McSwan before these Nomination dates if your child (YEARS 5 AND 6 ONLY) would like to be considered. They need to be currently playing in the sport and have several years’ experience (preferably at a Representative level): Parents are required to transport students to and from these trials.

GPCC Secondary Swimming Carnival 2024
Our annual GPCC Secondary Swimming Carnival is coming up at Mingara in two weeks. A reminder that this is a compulsory school event.
When: Friday 23 February 2024 (please note the Zone Swimming Carnival is the Wednesday 6 March – at Peninsula Leisure Centre)
Venue: Mingara Leisure Centre
Time: Carnival will begin at 9:00am and conclude at 2:00pm
What to wear/bring: Swimmers, House colours or sports uniform, recess and lunch
Transport: All students are encouraged to make their own way to and from the carnival.
However, if students require transport on the College bus, the first bus will depart GPCC at 8:30am (last bus will be departing at 9am) and return by 3:00pm for the buses.
Please indicate on Parent Lounge (not at the Office) by Friday 16 February 2024 if your child requires bus transport.
If your child requires bus transport you will need to log into your Parent Lounge and in 'Events and Payments' locate the events named:
- TRANSPORT TO 2024 GPCC SECONDARY SWIMMING CARNIVAL and/or;
- TRANSPORT FROM 2024 GPCC SECONDARY SWIMMING CARNIVAL
and tick the bus transport options.
Please note: If there is a valid reason that you are unable to attend the carnival (like a nippers event), please email Mr Harris at charris@gpcc.nsw.edu.au your times to be considered for the Zone carnival. Note that only swimmers that attend the GPCC Secondary Swimming Carnival will be eligible for the Age Champion awards.
Parent Spectators: Parents will be able to spectate at this carnival, however they must spectate on either side of the pool or from the grass area (parents are not permitted in the grandstand).
