NNSW State Futsal Championship
What an amazing team these girls are! This team, comprised of Scarlett S, Amelia S, Willow H, Riley D, Asha L and Zara L (supported by injured teammate Eve H) competed at the NNSW State Futsal Championships last week and were a force to be reckoned with!
They played a total of 3 pool matches, where they drew their first one 1-1, and then won the next two with 4-1 and 3-2 score lines. The girls just got better and better throughout the day. Their big asset was that they never gave up. They persevered through every game, even if things weren’t going their way. This was evident in their first game, where they were down 1-0 and came back to score the equaliser with only 10 seconds to go.
As they performed so well in the pool matches, they had now qualified for the Semi Finals. This game would be their toughest yet and one that they needed to bring their best to.
They started strongly and had numerous chances at goal. Their shooting was accurate and defence strong and it was just unlucky that they hadn’t put the ball in the back of the net. The other team also played very well and were able to sneak a goal in past a wall of defence. At the end of the first half, the score was 1-0 and our girls needed to fight back.
Our girls rallied and continued to pepper the other team’s defence with attacking raids, shots, corners. Again, we were unlucky not to score a goal with the ball just going wide or even hitting the post.
By the full-time siren, the girls had gone down 1-0. They did show what great determination they have and how they never gave up trying.
Congratulations to the whole team for your wonderful performance and for the encouragement you showed one another.

House Relays
Last Friday afternoon we were able to finally hold our House Relays on the school oval. The atmosphere was pumping with Mr Cantor in charge of the ‘tunes’ and students from Years 2-6 ready to cheer on the athletes.
Some super close racing and a crazy teacher race made for an entertaining afternoon that was topped off with an ‘all in’ dance party.
Thank you to the boys and girls and teachers for helping to make the afternoon so special.

Coaches
I’d like to take this opportunity to thank the amazing teachers that have stepped up to coach a school sport team during Terms 1 and 2. Without teachers giving up recesses/lunches to trial and train students, then these teams would not happen.
Miss Cooper- Netball and Futsal
Mrs Sirone- Netball
Mrs Stubbs-Mills- AFL
Mr McGregor- AFL
Mr Sneyd- Futsal and Rugby
Mr Brown- Soccer
THANK YOU.
Athletics Training
Congratulations to our GPCC Primary Athletics Zone squad that will compete at the THACCCSA Zone carnival early next term. Remember to try and get some training done between now and then. Some suggestions include:
- Going for a run/sprint at the local oval or on the beach.
- Going down to the local oval and practicing your starts.
- Going to the beach and doing some jumps in the sand or finding an oval that has a long jump pit.
- I’d also be happy to lend our shot put and discus competitors a shot put or discus for safe practice, but these will need to be returned after the carnival. Let me know if you would like to borrow one.
There’s always lots of things you can do to maintain your fitness and be ‘ready’ for the carnival.

GPCC Sport Teams
We are looking forward to sending our teams to a number of Gala Days and competitions in Primary this year.
Students will have a chance to trial for certain school teams over the coming terms and will need to keep a close eye on the notices and listen out for Assembly announcements for when trials will be held.
The protocol for team selection is as follows:
- Teams have at least 2-3 trials before final selection.
- Unfortunately, it is simply not possible for all children who trial to be included in final teams. It is not uncommon for up to 60 students to trial for a team that only has 10 spots available. Due to these limited spots, it is highly likely that students will miss out on making the team. We acknowledge that we have a number of skilled athletes who trial for these representative teams and we strive to give opportunity during trials for students to demonstrate their skills.
- Once teams have been chosen, they will aim to have at least one training session each week before a competition.
CSSA (Christian Schools Sports Association) Child Protection training and Risk Warning
CSSA have recommended that all adults (teachers, volunteers, parents) complete the following module on Child Protection before attending any CSSA event (trials, gala days or carnivals). Thank you

THACCCSA Junior Girls Basketball
GPCC Junior Girls basketball team consisting of Mia D, Jiya M, Alex H, Lily D, Bonnie H, Dani H and Sienna O competed in the Division 1 tournament. After winning two games and losing to the two top teams in the preliminary rounds, the girls were able to advance to the semi finals. We came up against the number 2 team and pulled off an enormous victory 27-16. The girls then came up against the only undefeated team on the day and from the opening tip took the lead and held it for the remainder of the match, winning 26-18. A great team effort and now onto the CSSA State Champs later in the year.
A proud moment for our Junior Girls Basketball team who were named Champions of the THACCCSA Junior Girls Basketball division. Congratulations, well done.
Futsal
The Under 15s boys futsal team played in Maitland yesterday. They had a great start to the day with the boys finishing the 6 pool games undefeated. In the course of this the team suffered two minor injuries that meant subs were minimal in the Grand Final. An early goal to the opponents and hosts, Maitland, put Green Point on the back foot through the game. The boys fought through the tiredness and injury to come back 3-2 and win the game.
