Central Coast Oztag Gala Day - Southern

On Thursday 22 August we had 5 teams represent GPCC at the Central Coast Oztag Primary School Gala Day (Southern) at Umina Oval.

The teams played lots of games throughout the day with not much rest in between matches, they managed to improve as the day went on. We had a mixed bag of results against some tough schools with a special mention to Coach, Mrs Stretton and the 3/4 Girls team for going on to win the Gala Day in their division (see report below).

Well done to all the boys and girls who played their hearts out with excellent dodging, tagging, try scoring and teamwork. Also, to the coaches for selecting and training the teams Mr Brown, Mrs Sirone, Mr Gibbins and Mrs Stretton.

3/4 Girls Oztag Report - Winners

What a brilliant display of Oztag from our Years 3 and 4 girls team.

The day started with perfect weather conditions and lots of excitement and enthusiasm. During the rounds we had lots of talent on display. Some spectacular runs and consistent, tight defence. The girls ended the rounds in third place, taking us through to the semi-final against Coast Christian. This was a tight game but a brilliant try by Saoirse ended the match 1-0 and saw us through to the grand final against Central Coast Sports College. Having lost to this team in the rounds, the girls were feeling nervous but ready to give it their all and give it their all they did. Brilliant tags by every member of our team kept the opposition to one try and exceptional running, weaving and dodging resulted in 4 tries for us. Congratulations to Eden, Scarlett, Indy, Maddie, Elle, Savannah, Taya, Maisie, Amelia, Liza, Samara and Saoirse. They are the Central Coast Oztag winners for 2024! Special mention goes to Saoirse who was awarded Grand Final Player of the Match by Central Coast Oztag. Outstanding effort girls.

Congratulations to all the competing schools from our zone (HCZS) who finished in 2nd place overall.

It was a great day and we look forward to sending those that qualified to CIS next week.

GPCC Sport Teams

We are looking forward to sending our teams to a number of Gala Days and competitions in Primary this year.

Students will have a chance to trial for certain school teams over the coming terms and will need to keep a close eye on the notices and listen out for Assembly announcements for when trials will be held.

The protocol for team selection is as follows:

  • Teams have at least 2-3 trials before final selection.
  • Unfortunately, it is simply not possible for all children who trial to be included in final teams. It is not uncommon for up to 60 students to trial for a team that only has 10 spots available. Due to these limited spots, it is highly likely that students will miss out on making the team. We acknowledge that we have a number of skilled athletes who trial for these representative teams and we strive to give opportunity during trials for students to demonstrate their skills.
  • Once teams have been chosen, they will aim to have at least one training session each week before a competition.

CSSA (Christian Schools Sports Association) Child Protection training and Risk Warning

CSSA have recommended that all adults (teachers, volunteers, parents) complete the following module on Child Protection before attending any CSSA event (trials, gala days or carnivals). Thank you

Individual Sport Trials for Primary CSSA and CIS Teams (NOT GPCC teams)

These trials are not for GPCC school teams that we trial for here at school to play at certain gala days throughout the year (as mentioned above). The CSSA or CIS trials are usually held in Sydney and students will be trialling against students from either other Christian Schools (CSSA) or other Independent Schools (CIS) and are usually recommended for those students that compete at a representative level.

Please email Mr McSwan before these Nomination dates if your child (YEARS 5 AND 6 ONLY) would like to be considered. They need to be currently playing in the sport and have several years’ experience (preferably at a Representative level): Parents are required to transport students to and from these trials.

CSSA and CIS Sport trial dates: Please note these are not for GPCC school teams.

TERM 3

Monday 9 September - CIS Primary Boys Cricket trials (select students. Max 3 per school can be nominated) - Nominations close Monday 2 September

Under 14's Rugby League

On Wednesday, our Under 14’s Rugby League team participated in the Independent 9s Gala Day held in Cessnock, competing in three matches against St Phillips (Port Stephens), Manning Valley Anglican College (Taree), and Charlton Christian College. In the first game, GPCC kicked off, only to witness an impressive play by a St Phillips player who ran the length of the field to score on the very first play. This early setback galvanized our team, who responded with exceptional resolve, ensuring that no further points were conceded for the remainder of the day. The final scores of 38-7, 28-0, and 40-0 reflect the team's outstanding performance. It was a fantastic day, and we extend our congratulations to all the players for their dedication and effort.
