Change
“In any given moment, we have two options: to step forward into growth or step back into safety.” — Abraham Maslow
Change is an inevitable part of life. As humans we grow and develop. We progress from childhood to adolescence to adulthood. Our world is also constantly changing and changing at what seems to be an ever-increasing rate.
While actual change is inevitable, our attitude toward change is not. We can as humans remain static as the world and even our own bodies move and change around us. As John Maxwell puts it, “Change is inevitable. Growth is optional.“
The Bible speaks of the need for us to grow to maturity. In Ephesians 4 the Apostle Paul encourages us to become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ. This passage is saying that to be mature is to be like Christ.
Becoming like Christ is a challenging journey. In other parts of Scripture, it talks about casting off the old self and putting on the new. These are active verbs that indicate there is a choice and work to be done. Thankfully Jesus promises us a helper in the Holy Spirit to support us on this journey if we are willing to submit to it.
These aspects of changing to be like Christ are reflected in the Godly in Character and Lifelong learning elements of our learner/graduate profile. We seek to encourage all our staff and students to embrace growth and change. The best way to do this is to acknowledge our need for Jesus and embrace the journey toward maturity He has for us.
Building Update
On the theme of change, this year we have been witnessing a significant change occurring across the College in the form of the new Administration building. I would like to thank our whole community for the way you have adjusted to the different impact a change like this has on our campus. Building always requires some creative adjustment and patience. I am thankful for the way everyone has embraced the change.
The video below contains a short update on the build and some information as to the work occurring in the background. We will continue to provide updates as the work evolves.
