Zones of Regulation
We are excited to announce the introduction of the Zones of Regulation program across the Primary School. This innovated approach to supporting our emotional wellbeing will help students develop self-regulation skills, develop a deeper understanding of their emotions and teach students that they can take control and manage their own emotions effectively.
Throughout the lessons, students were taught that there are four coloured zones to help identify emotions.
Blue Zone: Feeling sad, tired, or bored.By recognising these zones, students can use specific tools to regulate their emotions and behaviours. Some tools we discussed were; deep breathing, getting some fresh air, going for a walk and talking with a trusted adult.
We encourage parents to engage with their children about the Zones of Regulation program. Asking questions like “Which zones are you in right now?” or “What tools could you use to move towards the green zone?” as these will help your children become more aware of their emotions and learn effective self-regulation techniques. We look forward to working together to support your kids in developing lifelong emotional intelligence.
Learning ‘Muscles’
Over the course of the term, you will be hearing about our students using their 'Learning Muscles'. These are dispositions that we aim for our students at GPCC to develop as lifelong learners. At the moment, our focus in the primary school is exploring what it looks like to be a 'Willing learner'. Teachers have been helping our students consider ways that they can take ownership of their learning, set goals for themselves, take risks in their learning and view mistakes as opportunities to improve and grow. We’ve also been exploring the concept of 'Willingness' from a Biblical perspective during our Chapel services by considering what it means to be God’s willing people, ready to follow His calling.
Smart Watches
We are having some ongoing issues with students using their smart watches to contact a parent during school time. It is imperative that any communication to parents during school hours (e.g.child is feeling unwell) is via the College office or the child’s teacher. This ensures that our staff are aware of any issues that have arisen and can act promptly, therefore maintaining our duty of care. Unfortunately, if this issue continues, we will need to consider banning smart watches from school for those students who continue to use them inappropriately during school hours.
