What's On at GPCC
First Nations Observances
During the second half of Term 2 each year there are three significant events for all Australians. Sorry Day, Reconciliation and NAIDOC. They are not just for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities; these days are observances for everyone.
First Nations events open a conversation where all Australians can discuss our shared history, rich cultural experiences and find a way forward for a strong, inclusive Australia.
NAIDOC 2025
The theme for NAIDOC 2025 is ‘The next generation: Strength, vision & legacy’. It is about how the next generations can carry on the work of celebrating and reviving culture, increasing community awareness, and addressing government policies that impact Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. The next generation can build on the work of generations before them. This year also marks 50 years of NAIDOC Week celebrations, the first NAIDOC Week was in 1975.
Urayne Warraweena one of our NAIDOC visitors from Brewarrina also visited the school in 2021 to talk about culture and create artworks with the students. Urayne gifted the school with an amazing cheese knife set decorated by her and the artwork the students created with Urayne hangs in the E Block hallway.
