Family Celebration
One of the greatest gifts God has given families is the joy of celebration. From the feasts of Israel in the Old Testament to the parables of Jesus that end with a banquet, we see that God intends His people to mark life with joy, gratitude, and remembrance. Celebration does more than provide a happy moment, it builds identity, strengthens relationships, and anchors children in a story larger than themselves.
Research shows that when families practise regular rituals and celebrations, whether as simple as lighting a candle at dinner, praying together at bedtime, or gathering for birthdays, children feel more secure and connected. These rhythms provide stability in times of change, help young people face transitions with confidence, and remind every family member that they belong. Even small, consistent practices carry powerful meaning and supports connection.
At Green Point Christian College, our heart is to partner with parents in nurturing children who are “equipped for life.” One way we encourage this is by asking: What celebrations and liturgies shape your home? These need not be complicated or expensive. A weekly family meal where everyone shares a highlight from the week, a blessing spoken over a child on their birthday, or an annual family service day are simple practices that weave faith, gratitude, and joy into the fabric of daily life.
As you reflect this week, consider how your family might mark moments, big and small, that point your children back to God’s goodness. In doing so, you are not only creating happy memories but also forming a legacy of faith.
Speaking of families and celebrations, on Tuesday night it was wonderful to see so many families at the NIDA Theatre in Randwick to watch our Primary Wakakirri students perform at the state event. Our students received not only a state award which allowed them to perform on the evening, but also a national award recognising the excellent quality of their story dance. A huge congratulations to all involved.
Also, this coming Thursday, we as a college will be celebrating with the graduation ceremony of our current Year 12 cohort. This will be a wonderful time for the community as we celebrate them and their families.
