BOOK WEEK – We certainly are a bunch of CURIOUS CREATURES with WILD MINDS

What a wonderful way to celebrate together. Our wonderfully costumed students immersed themselves in a full day of literature activities, reading shortlisted books and responding through drama, art and games. The afternoon was no exception with students moving outdoors for our carnival of activities. It was a wonderful day of laughter and literacy. A big thank you to our amazing Library staff and especially Mrs van Wyk for all of the thought and preparation that went into a spectacularly wild and curious day. Have a look at some of the amazing photos.

NESA Write-On Competition WINNERS!

We are thrilled to announce that two of our students were awarded prizes in the NESA annual Write-On competition. Amelia M (Year 5) received a Gold award and Ellen (Year 4) a Silver award.

Students composed an imaginative text of up to 500 words, using the image below as a stimulus.

Only six of these awards are given out across NSW in each section so to have two recipients in our midst is a great honour.  For Amelia, this is the second consecutive year she has received a Gold award and will be published in the anthology of work. Both girls were awarded their certificates by Mr Nash. We would like to take this opportunity to congratulate them both on an outstanding achievement. You can read and view the student submissions on our website.

Hats at School – after Father's Day

As the weather begins to warm up the UV will also begin to increase, and it is important for our students to begin to wear their hats again at recess and lunchtime. Please take time with your children to find and label their sun hats ready for the launch of hats again for Spring/Summer.  The Australian Cancer Council recommends that when the UV is above three we should use sun protection.  Please assist us in keeping our students safe and remind them of the importance of protecting our skin.

Road Safety

At GPCC, safety is always a priority. One of the main risk factors at our College is the amount of cars and students at pick up in the afternoons.

For this reason we are starting a road safety campaign. Students will be learning about ways to cross roads and carparks safely, the importance of seatbelts and the need to hold a hand until your child is at least 8 years old.

Up until at least 10 years old, supervise your child very closely, holding their hand when crossing the road.  If a hand isn’t available they should hold an arm, bag, clothes or the pram.

September is - Fruit & Vege Month

Fruit & Veg Month is a health promotion event that aims to encourage increased fruit and vegetable consumption amongst NSW Primary School children through engaging classroom, whole school and family based activities. This year's theme is Planet Fruit & Veg.  It’s all about exploring the world of fruits and vegetables through the lens of sustainability.  The Primary School will be participating throughout September so stay tunned for more exciting news over the next few weeks.

Operation Christmas Child Shoeboxes

OCC.JPG
It is the exciting time of year again where our Operation Christmas Child Shoeboxes have arrived at the College.  This year we are distributing one box per family in the Primary School.  The boxes will be given to the oldest child in Primary School, along with an information brochure.  A $10 donation is requested by Samaritan’s Purse to cover the postage, and this payment can be made online.  Shoeboxes are due back at the College by Tuesday 20 October 2020.  Thank you for being a blessing to a child in a developing country.
