PRIMARY ATHLETICS CARNIVAL

It was different scenery to our usual Athletics Carnivals, held at the Mingara Athletics Track. This year we needed to hold the Primary Athletics Carnival at school which was a great day.  Although it was quite warm, the children were amazing and there were some sensational results posted throughout the day.

Some of the highlights were:

  • Katie E, who already holds some records, broke both the 11yrs Girls Discus (throwing a mammoth 19.32m, beating the old record by over 2m) and 11yrs Girls Shot Put records (where she threw a huge 9.46m, which again destroyed the previous record by 2m)
  • Kyne B, who, like Katie, has represented our school at CSSA and CIS levels for Athletics, also broke the 12yrs Boys Discus record with a whopping throw of 33.20m. This broke a 22yr old record by over 5m. That is an impressive effort! He now holds a clean sweep of the Boys records in Discus, currently holding the Junior, 11yrs and now 12yrs records
  • Benjamin T, who is getting faster every year in both Swimming and Athletics, now holds the 11yrs Boys High Jump record, clearing an amazing 1.35m

There were many wonderful moments where students stood back to encourage and cheer one another on (especially several times as kids were trying to clear a challenging height in high jump).  Also, seeing students stop running a race to help someone else who had fallen over, really shows the great sportsmanship that we have at our school.

Our House Captains played a big role in helping run the Infants Athletics Carnival last week.  They were willing to help out at this carnival, assisting in the morning session for the Years 3 and 4, measuring throws, raking the long jump pit, etc. This was a tiring job, doing this for 3 hours in the sun. To show how amazing our House Leaders are, they then backed up by competing themselves in their own events in the afternoon session. They are a phenomenal bunch of students whom I greatly appreciate.

Thank you also to our wonderful staff who assisted throughout the day, running each event and recording results.  It was a great day and one that provided our school with the opportunity to come together and celebrate sport in both a fun and competitive way.
