Mr Peter McLellan | Head of Secondary

We had a smooth start to the year in Secondary School. It is certainly good to see all the students back and to welcome our new students. We are able to have assemblies which is a blessing to be together as a large community. Our theme this year is that we are together in this community and we are better for that. Together we help each other develop the characteristics of the Graduate Profile. Together our goal is to help others to develop to their best.

I would like to highlight a number of things to remember this year.

The Messenger is one of our primary methods of getting information out to parents. Please read it to keep up with all the happenings that occur during the year. It can be accessed from our webpage.

The Parent Lounge - Please be an active user of the Parent Lounge. It will help you keep on top of what is happening in your child’s day to day life at Green Point Christian College.

Year Advisors are usually the group of people you need to contact if your child is experiencing problems at the College. These dedicated teachers are: Year 7 – Mrs Kerrie Rochford, Year 8 – Mr Jon Oppel, Year 9 – Mr Chris Haines, Year 10 - Mr James Wright, Year 11 - Mr Matthew Newell, and Year 12 – Mr Chris Lewis.

Detentions must be attended by a student who has stepped outside the boundaries of the College and we need parents' support in their implementation. They are not given out without careful consideration and the desire to influence change in a student.

Uniform Policy must be adhered to during the year. Students are expected to be dressed correctly when they come to school wearing correct uniform in an appropriate manner. Girls' skirts are to meet the Uniform Policy in length. A student may only wear the sports uniform on a day they have practical PDHPE or PASS. Please note that shoes do not include boots of any kind. They must be shoes that generally do not cover the ankles.

Please note that girls' hair is to be tied back in Years 7 - 10 and boys’ hair if long needs to be tied back in Years 7 - 12.  This applies for the whole school day.

Years 11 and 12 Parent/Teacher Night – will be held Tuesday, 2 March 2021 for Years 11 and 12 (depending on COVID restrictions).

Year 7 Meet the Teacher and Faculty Night – will be held on Tuesday, 9 March 2021 in the MPC (depending on COVID restrictions). .

Class Placements - As the year begins many students will be changed in their classes. This is done with consideration of their performance and ability as well as other factors. We try to the best of our abilities to place students in classes that will enable them to achieve their best. We have limited capacity to move students at the start of the year. Classes are reviewed throughout the course of the year.

Attendance - Period 1 commences at 8:45am and students need to be in class on time. They must sign in at the student window located at the back of the Admininstration building if they arrive late, but this should be an exception. If a student needs to leave the College for any reason, they must have parental written permission and sign out at the student window.

Year 7 Camp

Notes should be returned to Mrs Rochford, Year 7 Advisor asap.

The Camp is on Wednesday 10 February to Friday 12 February 2021. The buses will be leaving school at 7:45am, students should meet at the MPC NO LATER THAN 7:30am. Please check your emails for more information closer to the date.

New Directions

We have made some changes in the direction of the development of the spiritual growth of our student body. Our goal is to improve the relevance between our core Christian beliefs and their teaching while giving students a real connection of what they mean in day to day living. We have therefore revamped our Chapel and Devotion program.

We have renamed Chapel time as Life.  Our program and delivery will vary from week to week but will focus on how to do Life with Christ. In conjunction with this change we have renamed Devotions to Equip groups.  The goal is to connect into doing life practically in union with the Life program at the different Year levels.

We are extremely excited by this change and look forward to the continual development of this program. I must highlight that core to this program, is developing a student’s understanding of God and how that needs to influence every part of their lives.  It will also closely tie into our Mission and Service Program.
