Head of Primary

Nicole_Smith_2020.jpg

Mrs Nicole Smith | Head of Primary

We have had a wet but successful start to the school year. 43 new students across Years 1 - 6 and 60 Kindergarten students joining our College for the first time. I have watched as our students have welcomed new students and reunited after a long holiday break. It is so wonderful to see community in action as our students reconnect after the summer break.

With our swimming carnival drawing closer and lots of representative sports starting up for the year it is so important that we remember these key areas that demonstrate good sportsmanship.

  • Act courteously and treat others with kindness.
  • Don’t lose your cool even when things don’t go your way.
  • Be a team player and help other have opportunities to succeed.
  • Encourage your teammates.
  • Acknowledge and applaud good plays, even when it’s your opponent that makes them.
  • Listen to and follow the directions of the coach.
  • Respect the officials – they are there to help and guide us.

Welcome to all our new students and their families

New Entrance and Kiss and Drop (K - 2)

We are delighted to announce the opening on Monday 1 February of our new entrance and exit and the Kiss and Drop Zone for K-2.

Please see follow this link for the procedures and watch this drive through video:

Video Link: Kiss & Drop 3

 Note the following:

  1. Older siblings (Years 3 -12) should now wait with K-2 students at Kiss and Drop Zone 3;
  2. It is preferable that you use the new Kiss and Drop Zone 3 rather than park and collect your child;
  3. If you do come to collect your child and they are not there, we will be able to locate them so just wait at the bottom of the hill and speak to the teacher on duty;
  4. Older siblings who take younger students to the bus will still need to collect them from the bottom of the hill as they do now.

Please read the material carefully and be patient as we all get used to the new procedures.

 Primary Swimming Carnival – Friday 5 February 2021 at Mingara

Our Years 3 - 6 Swimming Carnival is on Friday and I look forward to seeing many students as they compete in races.

Please ensure that you have logged into your Parent Lounge to acknowledge your child's attendance, transport details and swimming ability.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Mr Nathan Lambert for all of the work he has put into organising what I believe will be a fantastic day of community and celebration at the pool.

  • Please ensure that your child has their name marked off when they arrive at the pool and then when they leave.
  • Our swimming carnival is part of our school day. If any children need to leave early, they must have their name marked off and this will be counted as a partial absence.
  • Parents are unable to remain at the venue unless they are assisting in the running of the carnival. If you are able to do this please email Mr Lambert.

 Meet the Teacher Night – Tuesday  2 February 2021

This year there is two sessions for Meet the Teacher Night. Classes will meet all together as a grade and teachers will take time to explain the routines and expectations of the year ahead. This is also an important time for you to connect with other parents in your child’s class and build community in a COVID safe way.

Please note this is not a time for parent interviews as these will be held later in the term.

1 parent/carer per family and please wear a mask

The following locations will be set up for parents from each grade.

5:30pm session

Kindergarten – Library

Year 1 – Staff Common room

Year 2  - CAPA Theatre ( behind the MPC)

6:30pm session

Year 3 - Staff Common Room

Year 4 - Year 4 rooms

Year 5 - Library

Year 6 - CAPA Theatre (behind the MPC)

New start time Primary school day begins @ 8:45am

At the conclusion of 2020 it was decided to change the start time for Primary school to be more in line with the Secondary School. This change of time will mean the school day for both Primary and Secondary will begin at 8:45am. This will also allow for a 15 minute exercise and Crunch and Sip time during the day to increase the physical activity for our students during the day.

COVID Restrictions

Last week the Principal emailed out the most recent COVID restrictions for schools. Please ensure you read carefully the different information about this throughout the year. Some points pertinent to Primary include:

  • Students suffering any symptoms such as "fever, cough, sore throat, shortness of breath, loss of taste, loss of smell" should be COVID tested and may not return to school until the school has sighted the negative test result.
  • Parents are still not permitted on site unless visiting the Uniform Shop or the office. Social distancing must be maintained while dropping off or picking up students each day.
  • Parents or adult volunteers helping with essential school activities such as religious activities, specialist support or services and essential curriculum activities may enter the school property after signing in at the College office.
