End of Term

We are coming to the end of another busy term. I would like to take the opportunity to thank our marvellous teachers and teacher aides for all their work in providing resources and interesting lessons for our students across the term. As you enter the holidays, please take time to build some significant memories with your children. Go for a bush walk or walk along our amazing beaches, visit the local library, invest in a new book to read or begin a family puzzle together. Kick a ball, go for a bike ride or discover a new park. Our children can learn just as much from being outside the classroom as they can inside the classroom. I pray you will have a safe and happy holiday and I look forward to much learning over the coming terms.

Focus on Reading – Vocabulary

Understanding the meaning of words helps your child to comprehend what they hear and read. You can build your child’s vocabulary by simply talking with them on a range of topics. When reading to your child, point out new words and provide a simple definition. Use the new word in another sentence. Read a wide variety of books to expose your child to new vocabulary or known familiar words used in a different setting. Perhaps you could have a word of the day that each family member needs to use 2 - 3 times throughout their conversations.

NAIDOC Assembly

This week Primary students heard from Urain – a  Barranbinya woman from the Brewarrina region of NSW. Urain spoke to our students about the importance of country and the ways they can demonstrate sustainable practices to look after the lands that God has given us. Thank you to Mrs van Wyk for organising this for our College.

NAIDOC Mufti Day Wednesday 23 June

We will be having a NAIDOC Mufti Day to raise money for the Aboriginal church at Brewarrina. Students can wear colours of the Aboriginal flag – red, yellow and black, or clothing containing Aboriginal designs or art works.

Students will need to bring in a gold coin donation which will be collected during class time on Wednesday morning.

Secondary students will be having a sausage sizzle and cake stall. This is NOT for Primary students.

For safety reason, all students will need to wear enclosed shoes.

Year 5 Trip to Bathurst

On Thursday 24 June, Year 5 head off to Bathurst Goldfields for an immersion experience. On the trip out to Bathurst students will visit Featherdale Farm and hear about how Australian animals have adapted to their environment. They will learn about life on the gold fields and will even try their hand at gold panning. Please pray for our students and teachers over this time.

Head of School awards Terms 3 and 4

Our Student Representative Council has brought several suggestions over this last term, and one which will be implemented for Terms 3 and 4 is the change of the Head of School Award muffin. The students asked if they could be given a canteen voucher to the same value as the muffin and that way they can choose an item that they like. This is a valid suggestion and so from Term 3 students receiving a HOS Award will have a voucher that can be used at the canteen. This voucher will be for one item and will not give change. Students can choose an item from the recess menu the following day. A list of HOS Award items will be placed on the canteen window to choose from.
