Secondary School News
Mrs Jane McLarty | Deputy Principal
The HSC has commenced and saw our Year 12 students able to finally look forward to their future beyond school. After a very challenging couple of years for this cohort, I have been so encouraged by their resilience, persistence, and sense of humour. Go well Year 12 and we look forward to celebrating your Graduation at school on Thursday 2 December and Formal on Friday 3 December.
Thank you to Mrs Mckay, who has stepped in to oversee our HSC students. Message from her below.
"After a very long wait, our Year 12 students finally began their HSC exams this week. Despite the extra hurdles of QR codes, mask-wearing and a timetable that has changed multiple times, Year 12 students were on time, well-prepared and in good spirits. Mrs Mary Austin (Presiding Officer) commented on the excellent attitude and calm approach of all students, commending them on their compliance and diligence. The encouragement and support of families and teachers has been instrumental in preparing Year 12 to be confident and well-equipped in facing this final hurdle of their schooling journey. Our students have shown perseverance, fortitude and even good humour as they have navigated the significant challenges of this year and we are incredibly proud of their hard work. Congratulations, Year 12! We look forward to celebrating your graduation and formal with you in just a few weeks."
National School Counsellor Appreciation
Last week our newly inducted Prefect Team acknowledged and thanked our College Counsellors for the amazing role they play in the welfare of our students and staff. Jarel, Tiff and Stephen (and Bentley) are here to help students, parents, and staff to navigate the many challenges they face. Their calm demeanour, welcoming spaces, effective strategies and techniques help our community enormously each day. Thank you, Counselling Team, for all you do.
HSC Exams
Please continue to be in prayer for our 2021 HSC students.
HSC Textiles and Design Major Work
Chloe S created a hanging applique on cotton inspired by Katatjuta (The Olgas), Northern Territory, Central Australia. There is an Aboriginal landscape influence in her work, with a sense of country including local flora and patterns. The work represents sky, rock and ground with textures created by stitching and additional elements. Colour choices are representative of the location and subject.
Congratulations to Chloe on her amazing major work for Textiles, which she studied via Distance Education.
Photo: Chloe visited Central Australia in 2018 on a GPCC Geography trip when she was in Year 9. Maybe that is what inspired her Year 12 major work?
