Tjudibaring AECG (Aboriginal Education Consultancy Group) Awards
Congratulations to the following students who won awards on Wednesday night at the 2021 online Tjudibaring AECG (Aboriginal Education Consultancy Group) Awards, in recognition for their commitment to their culture and community.
Leadership: Alexander B (Year 9)
Alex wrote “I am a proud Aboriginal Australian. My great grandfather was from the Wakka Wakka tribe between Brisbane and Bundaberg in Queensland. My great grandmother was born on the Yass River and was from the Wiradjuri tribe which covers a large area in Central NSW down to the Murray River.” Country is very important; this was part of his NAIDOC speech in front of Secondary School. Alex left students with this thought, “I really hope that through more awareness and huge effort Australia can start to close the gap and eliminate these differences to ensure equality for all.”
Recognition for 2020: Grace M (Year 5)
Grace produced a short video last year about her Aboriginal culture, knowledge, and personal experience. NAIDOC celebrations were online due to COVID, so her video was shared in Primary classrooms. No awards were held in 2020; this category is to recognise students who missed out on the opportunity.
It was a wonderful ceremony; we are so proud to have such capable students representing the ATSI community at Green Point Christian College. Mr Phillip Nash presented Alex and Grace with their framed certificates and winner’s prize this week.
All nominees received their prize bags in a ceremony at school, in readiness for Wednesday night’s ceremony. This is the first time Green Point has been involved in the awards. It is a great way to encourage our students to strive for excellence. One thing that came through the ceremony was the importance of family and belonging in a community.

Food Equity Christmas Hamper Appeal
Year 9 Food Technology have been studying Food Equity this term. Part of the program focuses on the homeless and refugees. The students wanted to put what they are studying into practice in our community and have initiated a Christmas Hamper Appeal in conjunction with Kincumber Neighbourhood Centre for all Year 9 students. The students will be collecting non-perishable food items in Weeks 8-9. They plan to compile and deliver the hampers before the end of the school year.
What to donate?
Any non-perishable food items: for example, tinned food (ring pull lids preferred), pasta, rice, biscuits, Christmas goodies, jams, spreads, chocolates, condiments etc. Students can deliver the donations to the TAS Display Room or TAS Staff Room.
