Primary House Cup

The House Cup is a competition where students compete in their respective Houses in a range of sports.

Not only is this competition important to develop their own skills in each of the sports, but it is also great in promoting team work, cementing relationships with those in their own stage, as well as developing the importance of encouraging team members.

This term, our Primary classes from Years 3-6 will compete in the House Cup.

 The sports range from:

  • Years 3-4 Girls are playing Basketball
  • Years 3-4 Boys are competing in International Handball
  • Years 5-6 Girls are also contesting against one another in Basketball
  • Years 5-6 Boys are also challenging each House in a competition of Touch Football

A fortnight ago, we started our first round of competition. In each sport, the House teams played three games against their competitors, trying to get as many wins as possible. Last week we were unable to have the second round due to the weather, with the oval closed.

When competition resumes, all teams will be looking forward to getting back into their sport and focusing on competing to the best of their ability.

Once the rounds are completed, we will progress to the Finals stage, where teams will verse one another in the Quarter Finals based on their placing on the table, then hopefully qualifying for the Semi Final and Final.

The Finals are always very exciting and great competition for those Houses who qualify.

Sport Awards

With the year nearing the end, we were aiming to hold a special Sport Celebration Evening where we were going to present a number of important sport awards for 2021. These awards were not just for the Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year, in both the Primary and Secondary School, but were also in recognition of student’s achievements in specific areas.

Some of these awards (there are more) for both Primary and Secondary were going to be:

  • Swimmer of the Year
  • Athlete of the Year
  • Runner of the Year
  • Netball Player of the Year
  • Soccer Player of the Year
  • Basketball Player of the Year

Unfortunately, due to many sport events cancelled for 2021, we are unable to hold this service or present these awards. With many Zone and CSSA events still needing to be held to make calculating accurately the recipients of each award, is has been decided that these awards cannot be presented this year.

We will however, be able to present the following awards at the Primary Thanksgiving Service (at the Stage 3 service) in the last week of school:

  • Sportswoman of the Year
  • Sportsman of the Year
  • Sportswomanship of the Year
  • Sportsmanship of the Year

These Sport awards are based on student’s performances at school carnivals, as well as Zone, CSSA and CIS level. They receive a certain number of points, based on if they were an Age Champion, or qualifying for a certain representative level. Sportsmanship for both the boys and girls are based on their efforts in PE, willingness to try out for school teams, attitude when playing sport as well as helping and encouraging others.

These same awards for Secondary are presented at the start of 2022.

As mentioned in last week’s Messenger, there will also be a number of Age Champion awards that will be presented as well:

  • Primary Athletics
  • Primary Cross Country

Secondary recipients of these awards will have them presented in the next couple of weeks at their Year Assembly.

We will hope that in 2022, we are able to move forward in having a special Sport Celebration Evening.

CSSA Primary and Secondary Tennis

If there are any students in Primary (Years 3-6) and Secondary (Years 7-11) who are experienced tennis players (playing for a number of years) and play competition tennis and would like to be considered for the CSSA Primary and Secondary Tennis trials early next year in February, please email Mr Lambert on nlambert@gpcc.nsw.edu.au to register your interest. Also include details on years playing and competition results.
