Primary Athletic Event Update

We just have the Junior Boys and Junior Girls (8,9 and 10 years) shot put to complete over the next two weeks. This is again reliant on good weather.

I hope to have all of this completed by the end of the term and will then be able to work out Age Champions, winning House and the squad for Zone which is scheduled for August 1 (next term). Thank you for your patience.

Athletics and Cross-Country Awards

These will be presented together at a Chapel service early next term once all the athletic events have been completed.

Next term we will begin a weekly House Sport competition with students from Years 3 - 6 during Friday Sport afternoons. Students will have the opportunity to participate for their House in a variety of sports including continuous cricket, international handball, basketball or Newcomb ball. Please note, students may not play all these sports during this time, as it is weather dependent.

Senior Girls Futsal (indoor soccer) Trials

Seniors Girls Futsal trials are being held on Monday (20/6) during Lunch in the MPC.  All senior girls (Years 10-12) will be eligible for tryouts. Bring Futsal shoes or sneakers (no studded soccer boots) and PDHPE clothes (shin pads NOT needed for trial).

Unfortunately, there may be many keen and able players who will miss out as the teams are much smaller than those of outdoor soccer. So, bring your A-game. We should have a very competitive side this year.

THACCCSA Secondary Girls Basketball

U15's Girls Basketball Team

The Junior Girls Basketball team travelled to Broadmeadow Basketball Stadium to participate in the THACCCSA Regional Gala Day.

Our team of Years 7 and 8 students were: Elouise A, Sophie V, Scarlett S, Megan L, Isabella E, Ariella N, Bronte M and Izzy L.

We played 4 games in our pool winning each game convincingly, then played Belmont CC in the semi finals and were able to win 17-11.

The big test of the day was the Grand Final against Maitland where we played up to our potential, however, Maitland prevailed as the best team on the day 30-7.

Well done to all players on the team on the way they played and the way they conducted themselves on the day. Mr Harris

Senior Girls Basketball Team

On Wednesday 15 June the Senior Girls Basketball travelled to Newcastle to the Broadmeadow Basketball Stadium to take part in a tournament. The girls have been training each Monday afternoon in preparation for this day. All players gave it their best, going undefeated into the Semi Final game, which took us into overtime. Eloise S was fouled and made her free-throw putting the team up by 1 point with 15 seconds left to play. Lacey E cemented the win into the Grand final with a jump shot which gave the team a convincing win. Unfortunately, despite a tough match, the team lost in the Grand Final by 4 points. It was a joy to watch them play and fight for each other on the court. Coach Darren and I couldn’t’ be prouder.

Congratulations to: Grace C, Lacey E, Lauren G, Lotus G, Gemma G, Jessica H, Grace H, Ruby J, Gemma L, Eloise S, Codie W, Sophie V.

THACCCSA Secondary Boys Futsal Gala Day

On Wednesday 5 June GPCC participated in the Christian schools State Futsal Gala Day.

The Junior Boys started off with a comfortable win to let every other team know that they GPCC have a legitimate chance of winning the competition. After comfortably making the semi-finals they had a tough game against Charlton which ended in a 2-2 draw. This sent the game into a penalty shootout with the GPCC Boys prevailing 2-1. The Grand final paired them against a strong Belmont side. Both teams played their hardest but unfortunately Belmont managed to sneak a second half goal and hold onto the lead to win the game 1-0. It was a great effort form the Junior Boys to finish the day runners up.

The Senior Boys first game was against Maitland and they knew were going to be a team to watch the whole day. With a very lethargic start, the boys took a while to finally get going and unfortunately lost this opening game. From then on, however, the Senior Boys clicked into gear and progressively got better throughout the day. With a semi-finals birth against a team that they had previously drawn against in the group stage, the boys went 3-0 up at half time and managed to hold onto the lead to finish the game 3-2. This pushed the boys into the Grand Finals against Maitland who were undefeated until now. Unfortunately, the Maitland team proved too strong again and were victors at the end of the second half whistle. The Senior Boys put in a great effort till the end and came away smiling after having a great day, emerging runners up.
