Primary Athletic Event UPDATE
We have finally finished the field events for the Athletics Carnival, and I am now in the process of working out the Age Champions, winning House and the squad for Zone which is scheduled for 1 August (Week 2 Term 3). I hope to post the Zone team on my office window towards the end of next week.
Athletics and Cross-Country Awards
These will be presented together at a Chapel service early next term.
House Sport
Next term I would like to begin a weekly House Sport competition with students from Years 3-6 during Friday Sport afternoons. Students will have the opportunity to participate for their House in a variety of sports including continuous cricket, international handball, basketball or Newcomb ball. Please note, students will not play all these sports during this time and that it is weather dependent.
Central Coast Rugby 7's
The under 12's Rugby Union side had a short trip to Erina Leagues Oval to participate in a Central Coast 7's competition.
The Years 5 and 6 students were well led by Isaac J and Jacob L both acting as team captains.
In the first game against one of four Central Coast Grammar teams, the boys narrowly went down 4 tries to 3, a great effort as it was the first game of rugby for many of them.
In the next two games, the boys stepped up and showed a great improvement forcing a 3-3 try tie against a strong St Patrick's side. Followed by a 9-0 try win against Mackillop Christian College leaving us 2nd in our pool and just missing out on finals.
The 2nd vs 2nd match-up was against another Grammar side with more size than the previous. The boys showed a strong determination in defence with big tackles that lead to turnovers and easy tries on offence, winning the match 5 tries to 3.
Team: Xavier B, Ethan D, Josh F, Cameron H Y, Fletcher J, Isaac J, Harry K, Jacob L, Miller P, Tobias S and Noah W.
A big congratulations to the team for a great effort.

NNSW Primary State Futsal tournament
On Monday, our Senior Primary Boys Futsal team competed at the NNSW State Futsal Championships. This competition is for the top Futsal teams who finished in the top 2 of their Regional tournament. Our Senior Boys team won the Central Coast Tournament last term and now were ready to compete at State.
Their first game was a tough one against Newcastle Grammar. Our boys began with solid passing and good teamwork, providing a number of scoring opportunities. Once we took an early lead though, we didn't turn back, scoring several more goals and winning 4-1. It was a good start to their State campaign.
St Phillip's was their second opponent and we started fast. Brilliant and precise passing was important here and our boys did exactly that, putting together some superb plays to score a number of fantastic goals. The final score line was 10-0. A convincing win that put them in a good place for their pool.
Their final match was against Bishop Tyrell, who was a very strong opponent. This game was a tough one, with both teams defending and attacking well. Once Bishop Tyrell scored twice, our boys were unable to find the equalisers, and went down 2-0. It was a hard loss and one the boys didn't want to repeat.
We finished second in our pool and now had to play in the Semi Final against the top team from Pool A. This turned out to be Waratah.
The Semi Final was a great game. Our boys took their game to another level, playing absolutely superbly. They provided a number of great scoring chances due to spot-on passing and their defense was brilliant. After we scored an early goal, we went on the defensive and held out Waratah with some amazing tackles and phenomenal goalie saves. We finished 3-0 up at the end of full time and were ready to take on the Final.
If you thought the Semi Final was a great game, then the Final went to a whole new level. It was a battle, one where both teams gave 100% in everything, from passing, tackling, diving saves, dribbling, shots, you name it. It was one game that was so tense from the opening whistle to the final siren.
Our boys were focused and pumped from their Semi Final and came out firing. We again scored early through Levi and then defended everything. Our scrambling defense by Luca and Chase was worth seeing, as it was just sensational. They were able to provide cover for every attacking wave. Jacob, who was our goalie, stopped every single shot. He was unbeatable in goals. Our forwards, in rotation, from Noah and Jaxon, to Xavier and Levi, to Zain and Josh, peppered the goal with attacks and pressure. They all played like they had been playing together for years.
With a 1-0 lead, we needed to keep providing pressure on their goals as well as defend our own. With the tension building, and pressure mounting, it needed something special to cement this victory. It came in the form of one of the best goals on the day. Luca drilled a spectacular shot from outside halfway, passed the goalie, into the goal. It was phenomenal!
Once the full-time whistle went, we had won 2-0 and were now State Futsal Champions. YES!!
Congratulations to this team of boys who gave everything on the day and demonstrated what teamwork can do.
Team: Xavier B, Chase C, Zine F, Josh F, Jaxo H, Jacob L, Levi S, Noah W, Luca W
