The Jungle Book Musical Working Bee continues
A HUGE thank you to all the mums, dads, grandparents and students who have been helping with costuming both at home and at school. We really appreciate you taking your time to assist in making our musical successful. We couldn’t do this without your support!
We will continue our Musical working bee next MONDAY, TUESDAY and THURDAY mornings in the Staff Common Room from 8:45am onwards.
Please come and join in the fun on whatever day you are available for as long you can. We will stop for a morning tea break outside from 10:00-10:20 each day. Tea and coffee will be provided from the canteen.
There’s still lots to do so if you are handy with a hot glue gun, paint brush, scissors or sewing machine we need you! If you haven’t let us know and would like to help please feel free to just turn up on the day.
National Science Week – 'Glass: More than Meets the Eye'
Originally Established in 1997, National Science Week provides an opportunity to acknowledge the contributions of Australian scientists to the world of knowledge.
Last Monday saw GPCC and YVCS students celebrate National Science Week , with our very own ‘Mad Science Monday’. This event encourages students to be fascinated by the world we live in. It was a fun day for all students to actively participate in mixed age groups. They worked collaboratively in small groups to explore our world.
K-2 students enjoyed blowing bubbles , planting succulents, creating fireworks in jars and looking closely through magnifying lenses. They wondered, pondered , investigated and used enquiry skills to think deeply about Gods creation. They marvelled that oil and water don’t mix, succulent leaves hold their own water and magnets attract . A special highlight was seeing Professor G at work in wig and hot pink tights !
3-4 students applied scientific principles of gravity, created zoetropes, used air pressure to ‘stick’ card to a glass of water, and created delightful, pitched tones playing music in glass milk bottles.
5-6 students enjoyed creating lava lamps, exploding rockets, designing paper planes and learning the principles of aerodynamics. Mr T planted seedlings for our Vegie garden along with some helpers.
It was a magnificent day and we were blessed with fine weather to take many of the lessons outside. Our students are all ‘Super Scientists’ and had an amazing day of learning together.
