Central Coast Oztag Gala Day - Years 5 and 6

Senior Boys

The Senior Boys Oz Tag team had a fantastic day at the Central Coast Tournament. Nearly 30 teams were participating in the boys competition and there were some very skilled and experienced players.

Their first game was against Adventist, who were a tough opponent. They went to an early lead, with our boys defending strongly, trying to hold them out. With some good attacking moves, we were able to score a try but time ran out, with Adventist eventually winning 3-1.

Our second match was against Berkley Vale, one of the strongest teams in the comp. We played exceptionally well, providing good defence and some impressive attacking moves. We again just went down 4-1, but it was a close game for the entirety of the match.

Warnervale was our third game and one that we needed to win to stay in the hunt for the finals. Unfortunately, they went to an early 2-0 lead and with only half the match left, time was against us. The boys however, rallied together and played some brilliant football, passing the ball wide and creating numerous opportunities. After scoring 2 quick tries, the scores were level. Warnervale scored again and taking a 3-2 lead, thought they were safe but again, showing such a fighting spirit, our boys came again and scored in the corner, levelling the scores.

The game looked like it was going to a draw until we regathered the ball and were on the attack on their try line. With the final siren sounding, we had one play left and Isaac took control, beating many defenders and scoring a sensational match-winning try.

Coming off a wonderful victory, our final match would be important. We needed to win against Lisarow and score several tries to have any chance of making the finals. The game was extremely close, with both teams having several chances to score. Lisarow took their chances and scored 2 quick tries. Again, we had to fight back and again, we did. Scoring level with only minutes left on the clock, our boys tried everything to get over the line one last time. Unfortunately, Lisarow made a break and scored, winning the game in the dying minutes 3-2. It was a fantastic game and one that went down to the wire.

Well done to all of the boys for their superb efforts! They played fantastic as a team and showed what a true fighting spirit they have. Great job, boys!

Senior Girls

On Tuesday the Years 5 and 6 girls Oztag team travelled down to Umina to play in the Oztag Gala day. Our girls played 4 games against some very tough competition and came away with 2 impressive wins. Their incredible tagging made the other 2 games very challenging for the other teams.

The girls showed great skills, wonderful passing and made some impressive tags throughout the day. The girl's wonderful godly character was also on display as they treated the other teams and referees with respect and kindness.

Congratulations to the 5/6 girls Oztag team for a wonderful and enjoyable day. You all played extremely well, and it was wonderful to watch your teamwork, particularly as the weather made it difficult to train together this year.

Years 2, 3 and 4 Central Coast Oztag Gala Day

On Thursday we had 3 teams participate in the Stage 1 and Stage 2 Central Coast Oztag Gala Day at Umina. Unfortunately, wet weather had prevented many training sessions in the lead up to the tournament, but we could see from the outset that the girls and boys were learning many of the rules and strategies of the game as each match was played.

I am pleased to report that all teams improved in their performances and even those that had not played Oztag before showed good potential. Each team performed well, displayed improved skill and did themselves proud.

Well done to all the teams for a great day and to the coaches for looking after the teams.

Ice Skating

Congratulations to Caitlyn F and Amelia P (Year 6) who were part of the Central Coast Synchronised ice skating team who earned the Gold Medal  in the Aussie Skate Division 3 of the Sydney Synchronised Festival (an Australia wide competition with teams from QLD NSW and VIC).

THACCCSA OzTag Gala Day

Last Monday GPCC were represented by four teams in the THACCCSA Mixed OzTag Gala Day at Frost Reserve. After a wet weekend, the Lord provided a wonderful sunny day for our students to be able to enjoy a day of competition against the other THACCCSA schools. There were four divisions, Junior Division 1 and 2 and Opens Division 1 and 2. All four teams played some amazing OzTag and were commended by the officials by their level of skill and sportsmanship. After a tough day of competition, all four teams made their respective grand final. Both the Junior Teams won their grand finals and both of the Opens teams were runners up.  A special thanks to Mrs Kirk and Mr Lewis for coaching the teams. The students had a great day and thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Congratulations to all our students who represented the College so commendably.
