Welcome to Term 3. I trust you managed to get some time off to spend with your children. This is a long break, but we used the time in the past week for staff to attend a state-wide conference day and to undertake compulsory training in various regulatory matters as well as prepare for the term and work on new curriculum etc.
Term 3 is an important one for Year 12 students as they finalise learning in their courses and then undertake trial exams and revision for the HSC examinations. This can be a stressful time and it is incumbent on us as parents and teachers, to make it as stress free as possible. Lots of encouragement and support is vital rather than forcing them into a study pattern we think they should be doing. It is after all in their hands what their results are and it is a significant life lesson to learn if you have not been disciplined enough to prepare well. It is also not the end of the world if your results are lower than you had hoped for.
Our teachers are committed to supporting the students right through this process so they only need to seek help and it will be offered. I know our TAS and art teachers have been in with students during the term break opening up the workshops for students to complete their projects and staying late at school during the term to help them get projects complete. Thank you to the parents who also came in to help with TAS projects where a second pair of hands is often required.
Our success at anything is very seldom the result of our efforts alone. Anything we do will involve the support of others and we sometimes forget this in our very individualistic society. Our Graduate Profile for students refers to being collaborative as an important aspect of who we want them to become. This means helping others but also receiving help.
This past week we also launched with our staff a philosophy of education we have developed called 'Education for Wisdom'. A copy of the full document and an executive summary will be available on our website, and I encourage you to read it and feel free to come and talk to me if you have any questions or need clarification on any aspect of it. It is focused around the idea presented to us in the Bible that knowledge, understanding and wisdom go together. Our education system often over-focuses on knowledge with some understanding but we want our graduates to learn how to apply their knowledge and understanding in good ways that bring restoration and benefit to the created world and to those around them. This is wisdom.
I trust this term is a positive one for all our students but especially for our Year 12’s as they enter the final term of their time at school.
Principal
Welcome Back
Would like to take this opportunity to welcome all students back to Term 3. We have several new students and would also like to welcome them. This term there are many exciting activities so please keep an eye on announcements. So that you can forward plan please note the following dates:

Cru

Kiss and Drop 3 – Parents arriving early
So that our YVCS students can be collected safely at 3:00pm, please park in the overflow parking of P2 until students are released from class at 3:15pm. You will notice that several spaces will be Bollarded off for these parents to quickly park and collect their children and access to these spaces need to be left clear. These spaces will be released at 3:15pm
After 3:15pm parents may then leave the overflow parking and join the Kiss and Drop pick up lines.
This assists us in keeping our students safe and allowing the flow of traffic to flow well.
Let’s Recycle some Plastic to create some Art
During Term 3 students are encouraged to collect and bring into school plastic lids for a ‘Recycling’ Art Project. Please wash the lids, remove any white insert and pop the lids directly into the buckets located outside L1 (Primary Science room) Kindy and Lunch eating area.
We will then sort the colours and sizes.
At the end of Term 2, Year 2 students wrote an informative piece about GPCC for prospective families, here are some of their responses.
"GPCC is definitely the most amazing school in the world. I went to another school but asked my mum if I could go back to GPCC."
"GPCC has the best sport teams. We have soccer, AFL, Oztag, netball, cricket, basketball and more."
"GPCC has the best canteen. I enjoy the delicious burgers."
"GPCC is a glorious school. My school is the best on the Central Coast, you can have lots of fun!"
GPCC has the best education, kids can learn and have fun at the same time, it's awesome!".
"You can join the band when you are in Year 3 and sing in the choir."
"GPCC is the best school in all of Australia."
"We learn about God, we read a chapter of the Bible every day."
"Now this is why you should come to GPCC and book your kid in!"
Mr Steve Lobsey | Head of Secondary
It is always important to finish well
The last week of school is one where student’s minds begin to turn to the holidays ahead. This might be true of teachers too. However, we want to remain focused on school and schoolwork until the last day. Generally, our students did a very good job of this last term and it will be something we want to build upon to build a culture where we do our very best until the end. Then we are in a better position to enjoy a well-earned break.
A particularly pleasing element of last term was the musical. Mrs Kerrie Rochford and her team put 'Camp Rock – The Musical' together in only 8 weeks and the result was outstanding. It was great to see students who have special talents in singing, dancing, acting and music; and even better to see students participating even though they were out of their comfort zone. Please click on the link below to view photos of this wonderful performance on our website:

I would also like to commend Mr Christopher Harris who organised to have some basketball teams from St Philips to come to our school on the last day of Term 2 to compete with our teams. I am thankful for the time Mr Harris spends planning activities to give opportunities to GPCC students to participate in sporting activities. This new initiative is one we would like to expand on. There was a wonderful sense of community and school spirit created. You can read details of the results in the Secondary Sports section below.

Year 9 Commerce Market Day
Year 9 Commerce classes ran a market day at the end of last term as part of a group assessment task. Students wrote a business plan, prepared promotional material, and then conducted their market stalls. The stalls were varied between delicious treats and drinks; and activities like creaming a teacher. The $554 raised by all the stalls will be donated to the Barbara May Foundation. Well done to the students for their hard work for this great cause.

Paul Kelly AFL Finals- Central Coast
Late last term our AFL Girls Team went to Bateau Bay to play in the Regional Finals against some of the best school teams on the Central Coast. We played three games, winning one and coming off second best in the others. Some of our players had never played before and they picked it up so quickly! Everyone tried their hardest and hopefully some of the girls have been inspired to play next season for their local club. It was a great day in all.

Individual Sport Trials for Primary CSSA and CIS Teams
These trials are not for GPCC school teams that we trial here at school to play at certain gala days throughout the year (as mentioned above). The CSSA or CIS trials are usually held in Sydney and students will be trialling against students from either other Christian Schools (CSSA) or other Independent Schools (CIS) and are usually recommended for those students that compete at a representative level.
Please email Mr McSwan before these dates if your child (Years 5 and 6 only) would like to be considered. They need to be currently playing in the sport and have several years’ experience (preferably at a Representative level): Parents are required to transport students to and from these trials.

GPCC vs St Philips Christian School Basketball
On the last day of Term 2, during and after lunch our school hosted 3 games of Basketball on our re-covered and surfaced outdoor basketball courts against St Philips Christian College Gosford.
The senior boys played first and played very well winning 56 – 31. The junior girls team were a tougher opponent and St Philips were victorious 26 -12. Our junior boys finished the day and again played very well and came away with a 25 – 13 win.
This was the first time that we have created these interschool matches in the Secondary school with St Philips, and we hope to make this a regular event with many different sports. It was fantastic for the students to actually get to see our school teams play and will be a helpful experience for our boys teams as they play their basketball gala day next week.

Farewell Peter Gay
Peter Gay retired as our Facilities Manager at the end of Term 2 after serving with Green Point Christian College for over 26 years.
When Peter began at the College the Library building was still being completed, and our first Year 12 cohort of 29 students were sitting the HSC.
During his time Peter has overseen an enormous amount of growth and development with the GPCC property, and leaves the site well maintained and serving our community well.
Peter was always the first to highlight that the strength of the College was, and still is, the Christian community that we enjoy.
He served faithfully over this lengthy season at GPCC, and we are deeply grateful for the significant contribution towards the facilities we now enjoy.
We particularly appreciated his servant hearted approach with the teams that he led.
Peter and Jo are heading off soon for a well-earned holiday in Europe, and then we may see Peter back from time to time with our Brewarrina missions.
Thank you, Peter, for everything, and we wish you every blessing in your retirement!
Alongside Peter’s farewell we warmly welcome Justin Turner who began as our new Property Manager in June this year.
