A couple of weeks ago I mentioned our 'Philosophy of Education' document which is now available on the website in both short and long form. Follow this link if you are interested to have a look at it.
NAPLAN results are now out and we are pleased with the overall GPCC results. Here is a summary of them for your information.
The College has enjoyed a very strong result in the 2023 National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN). This year, student achievement in Literacy (Reading, Writing, Grammar and Punctuation, and Spelling) and Numeracy was measured against four new proficiency standards – exceeding, strong, developing and needs additional support. The new scale means that results from 2023 cannot be compared with results from previous years.
Across all assessment areas and all Year levels (Years 3, 5, 7 and 9), 80% of our students achieved results which either exceeded (just over 20%) or strongly met (just under 60%) national proficiency levels. This is an outstanding achievement by our students. Of the remaining 20% of students, nearly 17% were developing towards expectations.
NAPLAN Results Across Year Groups
The College’s average NAPLAN results across Year groups are relatively even, with Years 5 and 7 being slightly stronger than Years 3 and 9.

NAPLAN Results Across Areas of Assessment

Averaging the results across all Literacy areas gives 79% of students either exceeding or strongly meeting literacy expectations – just slightly less than Numeracy at 82%.
Congratulations again to our students and their teachers for their hard work and achievements in this year’s NAPLAN.

BIG thank you to all the parent helpers who have made costumes and wielded a hot glue gun to assist in getting us stage ready.
Book Week Costumes
One of the areas I consistently challenge students on is being mindful and considerate of those around us. What we wear and how we behave often effects not just ourselves but those we come in contact with. For this reason we want to extend this consideration to how we dress on days such as Book Week costume day. Please reflect on the following when preparing for book week:
- Students should not come to Book Week dressed as witches, warlocks (Harry Potter characters are permitted)
- Students should wear a costume that is congruent with their gender. Eg male students should dress as male book characters.
- Students should not bring with them any weapons, swords or knives as part of their costumes.
- Students should not represent anything from the occult or spiritual realm such as ghosts.
- Students are encouraged to bring the book that their character is in. (this is not compulsory).
There are many many book characters that do not involve purchasing a costume and could easily be created using clothes and accessories already at home. I look forward to seeing the creativity of our students on this fun and exciting day.

Let’s Recycle some Plastic to Create some Art
During Term 3 students are encouraged to collect and bring into school plastic lids for a ‘Recycling’ Art Project. Please wash the lids, remove any white insert and pop the lids directly into the buckets located outside L1 (Primary Science room) Kindy and Lunch eating area.
We will then sort the colours and sizes.
Mr Steve Lobsey | Head of Secondary
"How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity." Psalm 133:1
When I read the verse, I was reminded that the word 'community' has the word 'unity' in it. A community works best where there is a shared vision and purpose. It was wonderful this week to have an in-person opportunity for all parents to meet with their child's teachers and talk about how we can all be working together in partnership, with a shared vision of helping each student achieve their potential. After some years of not being able to meet in person, it is a good reminder we are a community and to feel a real sense of community.
Year 12 are currently doing their Trial HSC Examinations and I would like to ask you to join with us in praying for them at this time. When they return from exams they will only have 6 weeks left of school, so we also want to be praying about them as they finish up their time at school and start making decisions about what lies ahead.
Secondary Student Progressive Reporting
We continue to use progressive reporting at GPCC. When students do tasks, the teachers provide feedback to the students and then make a comment on the parent portal. This means that the students receive regular, meaningful, feedback on their learning; and parents do not need to wait until the end of the semester to receive information on how their child is performing.
If you are unsure how to access the reports, you can find the instructions for “Print Progressive Reports” under the “How-To Guides” menu in Parent Lounge
Recount by Bella T (Year 9)
Recently I participated in the Duke of Edinburgh’s Bronze practice hike. This was a great experience and I built friendships and improved my physical endurance through it. The first day we had to be up bright and early to get to school by 7:00am. Personally I had to wake up at 5:30am because I live half-an-hour away from school, resulting in a very early start to the day. We took the school minibus to Hornsby, where we met our instructor Sophie who helped us check and repack our bags for the hike. On this hike there were four Year 9 students; myself, Morgan D, Johnny L and Sidney B, our instructor Sophie, and Mr Samild who came on the hike to supervise as Mr W couldn’t come. Our group was fairly small, so we took less breaks during the walk to our campsite in Crosslands.
We left from Hornsby Station at around 8:30am and hiked 15km to Crosslands – with a lunch break in between, arriving at 2:45pm. The hike was across lots of different terrain including massive hills and flat grounds. The scenery was very beautiful, and we even saw some kangaroos and bush turkeys along the way. When we arrived at our campsite and set up our tents, a lady came up to us and asked us to move because she had a group of about 60 girls coming in and she had booked the area where we had set up camp! This wasn’t great news, but we did obligingly move our tents to a different area and re-set everything up for them. We then realised that the campfire we planned to use – which had lots of wood next to it – was now theirs, so we had to go look for firewood!
It got dark really quickly, and we ate dinner next to the campfire. We hung out together until later that evening and then we headed to bed. We didn’t have the best sleep because of the huge group of girls next door but we slept nevertheless. The next morning we woke up, had breakfast, packed up our stuff and then left to hike to Berowra station. There was a giant mountain on the way and it was hard to trek up, especially with our packs on, but we got to the top eventually, had a break and headed to a nearby lookout to learn about bearings. By then we were on the final stretch and while we were happy to go home and rest after two days of seemingly never-ending exercise, we were all still a bit sad that our hike had come to an end.
We hiked a total of around 21km altogether and I think we all enjoyed the experience and will remember it happily for a long time to come. To anyone considering the Duke of Ed, I would recommend the experience highly. Speak to Mr Witanowski about it if you are interested. A special thanks to Sophie, our hiking instructor, Mr Witanowski for organising the event, Mr Samild for supervising and Morgan, Johnny and Sidney for being great people to talk to and hang out with on the hike. The time spent with everyone was wonderful and I’m sure we all learnt a lot from it and enjoyed the experience.
Max Potential - Excursion to Tarrigal House
As part of my Max Potential Community Service Pitch, I gathered a group of eight Year 11 boys to visit Tarrigal House and spent half the day getting to know the residents and listening to their incredible life stories. The idea was to bridge the generation gap and learn from the wisdom and experiences of the elderly in our community.
Upon arriving at Tarrigal House, we were warmly welcomed by the staff, who were excited about our visit. As we sat down with the residents, they began to open up and share their journeys through life with us.
Their stories were truly eye-opening, and we couldn't help but be moved by the wealth of wisdom they possessed. We heard tales of resilience, love, and courage, as well as stories that made us laugh and reflect on our own lives. It was amazing to see how much knowledge and insight could be gained from spending time with those who have experienced so much more than us.
We left Tarrigal House with a profound sense of gratitude and admiration for the residents. It was truly rewarding to witness the positive impact it had on both the residents and our group.

THACCCSA Zone Athletics Carnival
Congratulations to all the students that travelled up to Glendale on Monday to compete at the THACCCSA Zone Athletics Carnival.

A special mention to the Senior Boys Relay Team Nate R, Ulrich E, Toby M and Noah W who broke the record in the 4x100m relay by 0.03seconds. What a super-fast effort!
I’d like to thank Mrs Stubbs-Mills, Mr Cantor and Mr Lambert for accompanying the team to Zone on Monday and expertly fulfilling their duties to help make the day run smoothly.
The State team will be finalised over the coming weeks with information sent home to parents shortly after.

CSSA Primary Soccer Finals
GPCC Junior Soccer Team
Last Thursday the Junior soccer team travelled to Kellyville to compete in the CSSA State Soccer finals after qualifying through winning the Zone Gala Day last term.
We knew competition would be tough, but we managed to win our first game 6-0 against Narromine, drew our second game 3-3 with football school Mamre who always provide quality opposition, we won our next game against Mt Annan 3-0 meaning that we finished equal first in our Pool but second on goal difference.
The team met St Hurmizd in the semi-final who we managed to beat 2-0 which then meant we would play the Grand Final in the next game against fellow Pool opponents Mamre.
Mamre had some star power with an ex-Socceroo providing support from the sideline. We knew that we could compete with them as we had pushed them all the way two games before.
Our team played so well scoring a goal on the stroke of half time before a hand ball from us in the box gave Mamre a chance to equalise deep into the second half. We then played 5 minutes extra time each way in a golden goal scenario, but both teams failed to score meaning a dreaded penalty shootout awaited both teams.
We each scored three goals each which then meant a sudden death shootout to decide the winner. Tension was high with GPCC players encouraging everyone that stepped up to take a penalty… Mamre scored, GPCC scored, Mamre scored, GPCC scored, Mamre scored, GPCC…missed to a diving save from their keeper. An amazing effort to finish runners up in the State.
What a huge event and successful tournaments from the Junior team. I am so proud of how well they all played and supported each other throughout. They have been the most successful Junior Soccer team that we have had for many years. Well done to all the players and thank you parents for your support too.
Congratulations: Jad A, James C (capt), Sidney V, Nash P, Max F, Sebastian J, Luke P, Tommy B, Zac G, Saoirse CD, Avery D and Enzo RC (absent)
Mr McSwan
GPCC Senior Soccer Team
Having been granted entry following their strong performances at the Zone carnival, the Senior Boys were determined to showcase all their talent right across the pitch at the CSSA tournament. ‘Goals galore!’ was the headline of our first game as Green Point slotted EIGHT past Parkes Christian School in a dominant 8-0 win. However, our work was certainly cut out for us in our next match as Mamre Anglican School brought their finest footballers to town (all of which are developed in their prestigious Football Program coached by former English Championship and A-League midfielder, Nick Carle). Despite this, great pressure from our forwards saw a perfect start to the game as we quickly led 1-0. However, the strength of Mamre began to show despite tireless efforts from our defence as they grabbed a second half goal to level the scores at 1 each. This remained the final score for the rest of the game highlighting just how much talent was amongst this group of Green Point boys.
A draw in the previous game meant our boys needed a win or a draw in their final game against Inaburra School to guarantee their spot in the final four. The boys were nothing short of clinical as they put on a class display defeating Inaburra 2-0.
Results in the other pool meant that our semi-final was against none other than Wyong Christian Community School for the 6th time in Football/Futsal this year. A valiant defensive display from our defenders was eventually broken down just before half-time as Wyong went into the break 1-0 up and despite our best attempts to ‘roll-the-dice’ and throw numbers forward, we were unable to break down this Wyong team yet again. 1-0 the final score and our day was done. The College should be extremely proud of our boys as we finished 3rd on the day, seating ourselves amongst the best Christian School football teams in the state.
Congratulations to Louis A, Zander M, Toby M, Lachlan B, Emlyn C-D, Avery H, Adam S, Levi S, George W, Jacob G, Jaxon H, Hamish L, Perrin L, Alex L, Isaac S and Noah W for your excellent football skills, but more importantly, for displaying the character we wish to see in our students at GPCC.
Mr Moody

Netball Friendly Games
Congratulations to our Junior and Senior Netball teams that played strongly in some friendly games against St Philips Christian College and Coast Christian last Friday afternoon in preparation for this week’s CSSA Gala Day. Well done girls.

Sport Team Trials
Over the course of the next few weeks, we will be holding a variety of trials during recess (and some lunches) for sport teams to represent the College at gala days that will be happening this term and next.
These trials are always very well attended with often 40-50 students hoping for a place in a team with limited spots. The teachers who volunteer to run these trials and choose teams do a wonderful job in doing so.
Students are encouraged to attend trials if they would like to try out and must listen to announcements at Assembly for when these will occur. It is a blessing that we have so many enthusiastic girls and boys willing to put their names forward even though they can’t all be chosen.
CSSA (Christian Schools Sports Association) Child Protection training
CSSA have recommended that all adults (teachers, volunteers, parents) complete the following module on Child Protection before attending any CSSA event (trials, gala days or carnivals). Thank you.

U15’s CSSA State Soccer Finals - State Champions
Arriving to Bernie Mullane Sports Complex, there was an air of uncertainty whether we would find success or fall short. But nevertheless, the boys rallied and prepared for our first match of the round against Shire Christian School. With a resounding 2-0 win, we started to believe we could achieve greatness. A challenging 4-1 loss against Northern Beaches Christian School tested our strength and mentality, but rebounded fiercely, crushing Wycliffe Christian School with a stellar 7-0 triumph.
The warriors of Green Point remained undeterred as they faced Inaburra in the semi-final, seizing a confident 3-0 victory. As the sun set, they entered the grand finale against a formidable Mamre Anglican School. The boys were fired up. The fans were on the edge of their seats. The trophy was waiting.
Green Point started strong, full of energy and desire. They dug deep and created multiple opportunities throughout the match. A young Mamre side looked well-structured and composed around the park allowing them to play some top-quality soccer. However, this thrilling match couldn’t be decided in 30 minutes. Nor could it be decided after another 10 minutes of extra time. The boys went into a penalty shoot-out locked at 1-1.
Lined up, brothers in arms, shoulder to shoulder. The boys embraced and supported one another. Every moment before each kick was met with the silence of uncertainty. The boys in black, white, and red never lost their focus and scored all their penalties to add pressure to Mamre. Hunter M was the MVP between the sticks, coming up huge in the shootout to save not one, but TWO penalties to clinch the trophy and declare our boys as State Champions.
Each player within the squad played their role and put in 110% in every moment of the game. From the three Year 7 boys, all the way up to the two Year 10 boys.
It was an honour and privilege to watch these boys create history and hopefully it is the start of a strong soccer era here at GPCC.
