I am pleased that we have been able to announce the appointment of the next Principal of Green Point Christian College. Mr Joel van Bentum will commence his duties on 22 January, taking over from me as I focus solely on the work and development of Melos Education Limited – the group of schools of which we are now a part. You will have received an email last week about this appointment and we are working with Mr van Bentum on a short video introduction which we will make available to you soon.
It has been a privilege to lead the school over the past four and a half years and as I have been reflecting with the executive team on what we have accomplished, it is a lot. Mr van Bentum is very aware that his job is to ensure the momentum we have been building up continues and that he leads the team here to the full implementation of the new direction we set for the College in 2020. Sound foundations have been laid to see us do a much better job of equipping students for life, and working with you as parents to shape them and guide them to become quality people. I trust you will welcome him in, as you have me and give him your full support.
The HSC examinations are in full swing and have gone smoothly so far. For this we rely very much on a team of people who give of their time to help supervise and support our students. For many years this team was led by Mrs Mary Austin who did a sterling job of organising an increasingly complex process. This year, Mr Alan Reynolds is our Presiding Officer, and he has settled into the role well.
We do not know for how many more years the current examination system will operate, but the writing is on the wall that more appropriate and effective methods of assessing students’ learning now exist and the HSC in its current form will eventually disappear. That will not be a bad thing especially for those students who find the whole examination process stressful, but who are able to demonstrate their learning in many other ways without the stress. We will wait to see what that looks like but many of us in education look forward to that day.
We are also in the season of interviewing new staff for next year and while we are filling most vacant positions well, there is still some way to go. Please be in prayer for quality applicants to come and join our team here.
Principal
CRU Tuesdays
Years 1-6 met for a combined CRU this week. Our friend, Jason Todd visited from Sydney. We played games, had a cool ‘shoe off’, and heard a great talk about ‘Getting ready for Christmas’. Jason even bought his KMart Christmas tree!
The students put the tree up, added lights, threw on some decorations and even added a star on top.
Jason encouraged us to think about Christmas, get ready for it (like the shops are), and challenged us to make Jesus the ‘star’, the point of Christmas. It’s what we celebrate. The birth of our King Jesus.
CRU meets every Tuesday lunch at 1:00pm, bring your lunch and bring a friend.

Our Year 6 students have been creating picture books titled ‘Les Animaux’. They drew pictures that they thought their Buddies might like and introduced them over the pages with simple French sentences. year 6 were excited to share these with their Kindy Buddies this afternoon. It was a delightful , engaging time for all.
A ‘Superbe’ effort Year 6

Mr Steve Lobsey | Head of Secondary
This week we celebrated World Teacher’s Day. The theme for this year is 'Hats off to Teachers.' We are blessed at the College to have teachers that go above and beyond for their students both inside and outside the classroom, who care for the whole student and continually provide opportunities for students to grow both academically and personally. Our teachers at the College in living out their faith and calling to Christian Education, continually look for ways to serve our students and the community. In doing this, they encourage our students to look for ways they may be able to serve others and share God’s word to the wider community.
One such experience is Mission and Service-Learning. This week a team of Year 9 Girls are on an AIM mission trip and have travelled to Far North West NSW to Brewarrina to serve Brewarrina Christian School and the local church in their mission of sharing the Gospel message to the surrounding communities. Service opportunities like this, are a great opportunity for students to reflect, grow and be thankful for the many opportunities that are available to them from God’s faithful provision to the College and the Coast community.

K-2 Swimming Carnival
Last Friday, students in K-2 participated in our swimming carnival at the Peninsula Leisure Centre, Woy Woy.
The children had lots of fun swimming, splashing, jumping, sliding, and playing with their classmates. There were even a couple of keen teachers who wanted to be part of the action. A highlight for many children that I’ve spoken to was the inflatable obstacle course and slippery water slide.
I’d like to thank all the parent helpers for braving the chilly pool water or handing out ribbons, to the house captains and school captains for setting a great example helping each grade and finally to the teachers for being simply amazing and running each activity.

CSSA 15/15 Cricket Knockout Competition
On Tuesday 24 October our Senior Boys Cricket team represented the College at the CSSA Cricket Knockout Competition at Adcock Park.
The boys knew they’d be up for some tough matches and a long day. Three games were to be played in total and the scorching heat provided another challenge.
In the first game against Belmont, we made the perfect start by rattling their batting order for 32 runs only for our boys to suffer the same fate and fall short by 6 runs. Superb bowling from Caleb M and Conor M provided most of our wickets.
Game two against Pacific Hills was a much higher scoring affair with Pacific Hills scoring 105 runs and we were able to reply with a decent score of 94 and a much-improved batting performance. Special mention goes to James G who topped scored.
In game three we met Northern Beaches who could not bowl all our players out but kept us to a modest total of 46 runs in 15 overs. We knew we would have to bowl well to have any chance and their opener quickly put an end to any hope we had by scoring the required total quickly for a well-deserved victory.
I’d like to congratulate all the boys for playing well throughout the day and fighting until the end. Some excellent batting, bowling and fielding was witnessed from the boys and they can all be very proud of themselves. Thank you to Mrs Kelly Gillen for being our chief scorer for the day.
Well done Hamish G (c), James G (vc), Luke L, Alex B, Hamish L, Caleb M, Conor M, Monty C, Andries dK, J
Some stats:
Game vs Belmont:
Connor 5 wickets for 6 runs off 2 overs
Caleb 3 wickets for 6 runs off 2 overs
Game vs Pac Hills:
Luke 3 wickets for 4 runs off 1 over
James - 37 runs from 31 balls
Hamish G - 14 runs from 18 balls
Game vs Northern Beaches:
Luke 14 runs from 26 balls

An Invitation to the Community
A CHRISTMAS GATHERING FOR THOSE IN THE COMMUNITY WHO HAVE LOST LOVED ONES.
The gathering will be a time of meeting together with others who are experiencing bereavement to honour loved ones who are no longer with us. We aim to provide an open door to the community so that all those who are grieving can know that there is a place where their pain will be acknowledged, validated and supported, especially during this Christmas season.
The event will take the form of an informal Christmas gathering and will include music, readings, poetry and a short message of hope. Morning tea is provided.
The gathering is an initiative of Mosaic, a group of people from diverse backgrounds who join together monthly to support one another through bereavement. It is an informal time of listening, learning and sharing our stories with others. All those who are experiencing bereavement are welcome to join the group.
