As I near the end of my time as Principal at Green Point Christian College, I want to remind you all of what I have been trying to say to you over the past four and a half years about what a Christian school really is. Especially as schools like ours come under scrutiny and attack from those who actively oppose Christianity, it is important you understand and appreciate just what we are about.
A Christian school is not just a school that is run by Christians. It is a school that seeks to undertake the act of education from a particular philosophical basis. All schools do this in fact, but we seek to make this explicit and transparent whereas not all others do. There is no such thing as a neutral position when it comes to faith and God. We either believe in God and seek to live in accordance with his pattern for humanity, or we believe in God but essentially ignore him and do our own thing or we refuse to believe in God and substitute something else in his place, usually ourselves.
As a school we adopt the first position. We believe God created the universe and humanity and placed us in an amazing and intricate world that he had made especially to sustain us. His desire was for us to be in fellowship with him and to take up the responsibility to further develop the world and society under his authority. But we were also given the ability to freely choose to go along with this or not and sadly, the first humans chose not to go along with this.
Seduced by the thought that they could take God’s place, they chose to go their own way and we have suffered the consequences ever since. But God did not abandon humankind, he worked out a way to show us where we had gone wrong and how to get back to our original state. That plan involved the coming of his own son, Jesus Christ, to show us again how to live as truly human beings and to take our place and bear the consequences of the punishment we deserved for rebelling against our Creator. The way is now open for us to be re-united with God and to be restored.
Christian schooling is grounded in this story, and we want to show students the effects of this on them and the world and how they can see the world not only as it is but as it can and should be. Everyone views the world through a particular lens of either faith in God or faith in something else. Our society places a huge emphasis on faith in ourselves and in technology. We work to show students an alternative view and invite them to consider adopting this as their way of life. In doing this we do not ignore the alternative world and life views out there but help students examine them as they seek to make their own choice about how to live life.
Next year we will be offering an opportunity for you to come along to some sessions to explore and understand this more so that you can appreciate what we are doing at GPCC, and maybe even consider adopting the Christian approach for your own lives. As we approach the Christmas season, we Christians rejoice in celebrating not so much Santa and personal gift-giving but the greatest gift of all – God’s gift of his own Son to the world that allows us to be restored.
Principal
Finishing well
As our students round the bend and head down the home strait of 2023, I have encouraged them to remember to finish well. When you are in a breaststroke race you must finish with both hands touching the wall. If you don't finish with both hands touching the wall you are disqualified and all your effort is for nothing. This attention to detail is important. I have challenged our students to look to finishing well by demonstrating respect in all areas.
Respectful interactions – with teachers, peers and within out community
Respect for our College – wearing our uniform correctly and with pride, looking after our environment
Respect to God – honouring him with the best that we can be, trying hard and not giving up.
Please speak with your children about this and remind them of our uniform standards, the way we can be respectful in our relationships and how we can finish well with both hands on the wall.
Uniform
From Monday students who wearing incorrect uniform will spend time off the playground. This will include jewellery, incorrect socks, and sneakers with formal uniform. Notes will be sent home for these infringements.
Maths Olympiad
Several students in Years 5 and 6 have been completing the Maths Olympiad. Three of our students Adam S, Zachary L and Xavier W did very well, finishing in the top 25% of the State. Congratulations, it is wonderful to share in your achievements.
Thank you Morning Tea - Volunteers
My grandma always said – Many hands make light work. That is certainly true for a school. We are so much better for the parents and friends who help us throughout all our events in the year and we would love to celebrate you. Our thank you morning tea is on Tuesday 28 November and if you have helped out in anyway this year – sports carnivals, sewing costumes, reading groups, grade parents etc, we would love to see you there. Please RSVP to brooke.milsom@gpcc.nsw.edu.au by Friday17 November.

Mrs Jane McLarty | Acting Head of Secondary
I cannot believe we have almost finished the 2023 school year; it has been a whirlwind! Mr Lobsey is recovering well from his surgery and has been overwhelmed with the support from the College community. He is planning to go home soon and begin building up his strength. Please continue to pray for him and his family during this time.
In 2024 the College are embarking on a Whole-school Wellbeing Project in conjunction with the Association of Independent Schools. The goal of this project will be to develop a whole school vision and approach to wellbeing, that supports and implements the GPCC Wellbeing Framework and the Graduate Profile. We are really looking forward to this opportunity. We will be seeking assistance from students, parents and the school community to gather data.
In a school of our size, there is always lots happening, but it is important that we stop and give thanks for God’s bountiful provision. Please join us on Friday 1 December at 9:30am in the MPC for our Annual Thanksgiving Service, where we will celebrate the accomplishments of our students and staff and look back on all that has been accomplished in 2023.

Much Ado About Nothing
Congratulations to our Years 9, 10 and 11 Drama students on the wonderful student led performances of Shakespeare's play 'Much Ado About Nothing', particularly Amelia H (Director/Actor). The play was full of comedy, intrigue and action, the students are to be commended on their fine performances.

LIFE Interest Groups
This week in LIFE, students participated in Interest Groups for the first time. Students were able to choose from 27 different activities offered by our Secondary staff. Some activities included dance, board games, puzzles, crochet, TheatreSports, bushwalking, floristry, a music group led by a Year 11 student and CRU group led by our Prefects. Our students who serve in Chapel each week were blessed to participate in a professional audio session by JC Entertainment. The Jazz Era comes to GPCC - The Great Gatsby Band Evening
On Thursday 9 November we had a glamorous and fabulous night celebrating the jazz age. Students and parents came in their Great Gatsby inspired attire, and our three bands performed a range of Jazz-inflected music. In addition to the music of Welcome Band, Junior Band and Senior Band we also enjoyed a 'speed-busking' competition to warm up the night. Not only were all the students brave, they also sounded amazing. Congratulations to Connor M for taking out the busking prize and to Remy B who won the prize for best dressed. Thanks to all the parents students and staff who made this a memorable night.

An Invitation to the Community
A CHRISTMAS GATHERING FOR THOSE IN THE COMMUNITY WHO HAVE LOST LOVED ONES.
The gathering will be a time of meeting together with others who are experiencing bereavement to honour loved ones who are no longer with us. We aim to provide an open door to the community so that all those who are grieving can know that there is a place where their pain will be acknowledged, validated and supported, especially during this Christmas season.
The event will take the form of an informal Christmas gathering and will include music, readings, poetry and a short message of hope. Morning tea is provided.
The gathering is an initiative of Mosaic, a group of people from diverse backgrounds who join together monthly to support one another through bereavement. It is an informal time of listening, learning and sharing our stories with others. All those who are experiencing bereavement are welcome to join the group.
You are not alone.
