This is our final Messenger for 2024, and I would like to thank everyone that is part of our Green Point Christian College community for a wonderful year of learning and growth.
It is impossible to capture all of the great things that have occurred this year. Students have exceeded their own expectations in small and large ways. Staff have been faithfully committed to their craft of teaching and have been working to support our students in so many ways. It has also been wonderful to see the ongoing commitment of parents as they partner with us on the journey. Thank you for a really positive 2024.
As we head into our final days of Term 4, I want to wish all our families a safe and restful Christmas break. I pray that in the busyness of this time of year that you can reflect on the reality of Christmas. Christmas is the time where we remember that God became flesh and He dwelt among us. The Creator of the universe became a baby to be fully human. He did this so that we might know Him and be able to relate to Him.
Another part of this time of year is that it is the time where we farewell some staff. This year we have several long-term staff retiring and we pray God’s blessing on them as they enter a new season. They are:
- Justine Collins – 22½ years
- Caroline Freeman 13½ years
- Virginia Lumby – 33 years
- Steve Suranyi – 24½ years
We also have several other staff that are moving onto other opportunities:
- Genevieve Nihill – PDHPE – has received a scholarship to undertake her doctoral studies
- Luke Moody – PDHPE – has completed his university degree and will begin a full time role with Covenant Christian College
- Phillip Heard – English – is moving into full time pastoral ministry
- Courtney Shanks – HSIE – is moving to pursue travel and new opportunities
- Jack Hansen - Science - is moving to pursue new opportunities
- Gemma Cooper – Primary - is moving to Sydney
- Karen Munro – Primary – has completed her Masters in Psychology and will be working as a psychologist from next year.
We pray God’s blessings on them as they continue to follow His call on their lives.
Have a blessed Christmas.

Mrs Amanda Rutlidge | Head of Primary
Thank you
As the school year draws to a close, I’d like to take the opportunity to thank the GPCC community for their ongoing support as I stepped into the role of Head of Primary this year. It is a tremendous honour to continue the ministry of leading the amazing staff and students in the primary school at GPCC. I pray that each student and their family may have a wonderfully restful break over Christmas as we celebrate the birth of our Saviour and remember God’s promise of salvation through Him.
Change to Years 3- 6 Last Day Activities
As per the email we sent out, there are significant changes to our upcoming End of Year Celebration Day. After careful consideration, our primary team have decided to modify the plans for grades 3-6.
Due to the unpredictable weather forecast, logistical challengers, and our recent beach days, we have decided not to visit Umina beach on Wednesday 11 December.
Instead, our 3 - 6 students will join the K-2 students onsite at Green Point Christian College.
Please refer to Parent Lounge and email for detailed information note, outlining the exciting activities we have planned for the day, including Jumping Castles & snowcones!
We look forward to celebrating the end of the year with our students and staff.
Thanksgiving Service
Our Primary Thanksgiving Service will be held on Tuesday 10th December. Please note that all students need to wear formal uniform for this occasion, even if Tuesday’s are usually a sport day for your child.
Yearbooks
Our 2024 College Yearbooks have been delivered to one student from each family. Please take time to read and reflect with your child on all they have achieved, in what has been a truly wonderful year.
Primary Choir at Erina Fair
This week our Primary Choir spread joy at Erina Fair, as they sung proudly and beautifully for the crowd at The Hive. Thank you to Mrs McKeown for your hard work pulling this together and well done students on a fantastic performance.

GPCC Christmas Tree at Erina Fair
Our GPCC Christmas Tree at Erina Fair has been decorated with beautiful ornaments made by our Year 2 students. A big thank you to the students and staff who went to Erina to do the decorating. Make sure you get down to Erina Fair and vote for our tree (entrance closest to Kmart and Base Warehouse).

Medication at School
Staff at the College are unable to administer medication, (including paracetamol and ibuprofen) without written permission from a parent. If your child requires medication whilst at school, please email: medical@gpcc.nsw.edu.au and deliver medication to the office where it will be stored securely.
“So I gave you a land on which you did not toil and cities you did not build; and you live in them and eat from vineyards and olive groves that you did not plant. Now fear the Lord and serve him with all faithfulness.” (Joshua 24:13-14)
This part of the Bible describes Israel’s entry to the promised land. I see a lot of similarities for us coming onto Green Point. The school started in 1982 and the first buildings on the current site were built in 1989 – and I played no role in it. Over more than 4 decades the school has grown and developed, with no input from me, yet I have the wonderful privilege to work here now.
In a bigger picture, for me to be here required a lot of blessings. To be born in Australia, to have access to education and to meet on my journey people who have helped, nurtured, challenged and inspire me.
So now I get to work in a school in which I did not toil, in buildings I did not build and benefit from the work of many people who have gone before me. It is for these reasons that this is a time of thanksgiving and why we have a Thanksgiving service this week. We are thankful to God for bringing each teacher, student, staff member and family into Green Point and to be able to spend a portion of our lives here.
I am also thankful to all of the hard work from our staff and students this year and the support of all of our parents this year. Thank you to everyone who has supported me this year and for all the kindness I have received. I especially want to express my thanks to Gretchen Taylor for her assistance each day.
Please take some time this week to think about who and what you are thankful for. I pray you all have a blessed Christmas and a peaceful, relaxing break.
Uniform Update
During 2023 -2024 the College undertook a review of the Secondary School uniform. After significant consultation with students and the parents that make up our Principal Advisory Group, we are pleased to announce there will be an update to our Secondary School uniform. There will be a twelve-month phase in period, we do ask for patience as we manage challenges with stock.

Staff vs Year 6 Matches
Last week some keen staff and Year 6 students played some closely fought games of Oztag, Netball, and Soccer. The games were lots of fun and enjoyed by all that played and cheered from the sideline.
Oztag
Some of the highlights included Mr Sneyd opening the first two minutes with a stunning try, showcasing grace and athleticism down the right side of the field. Rachel followed up brilliantly on the right wing, leaving players in awe with powerful steps that brought the opposition to their knees. Mrs Stubbs-Mills added to the excitement with her precision tagging, successfully completing four in a row, demonstrating incredible skill and focus.
Overall, the team demonstrated great sportsmanship and dominance both on and off the field. Congratulations to the teachers for their hard-fought 7-6 victory over the students. Best of all, there were no injuries to report.
Netball
Here's what the coaches of the students' team had to say about the match.
We would like to thank everyone for participating in the teachers verse Year 6 netball game. Everyone displayed sportsmanship and encouragement towards other players. It was a heart racing game and everyone brought their best to the court. The teachers were on fire throughout the whole game, goal after goal, but ultimately in the end the students came out on top with six amazing goals.
Soccer
In the drizzle, teachers and students displayed skilful passing and shooting throughout a hard-fought contest. Many of the students had chosen to play and therefore had subs aplenty, while the teachers were down to the bare minimum. After an opening couple of goals to the teachers, the students clawed their way back but ultimately when down in a very tight and entertaining contest. Well done, teachers and students.
A huge thank you to Mr Brown and the Year 6 students for organising these fun games.

CSSA Knockout Cricket Competition – Second Round
On Wednesday 27 November the Opens Cricket team travelled to Singleton for the second round of the CSSA Knockout Cricket Competition. The match, graciously organized by Carinya Christian School, was held at the picturesque Cook Park Number 1 ground, midway between the schools, on an exceptionally hot day. GPCC won the toss and elected to field, sending Carinya in to bat for their 40 overs. Carinya put on an impressive batting display, finishing at 4/225, with their opening batsman carrying his bat for a remarkable 113 not out. A special mention goes to Scarlett S, who demonstrated outstanding bowling by taking all four wickets for GPCC.
In response, GPCC started strongly, reaching 48 before losing the first wicket. Despite the solid start, the team was dismissed for 160 in the 38th over. Raj S led the batting effort with an excellent score of 80 runs. This match concludes what has been a highly successful 2024 cricket program for the Opens Team. All players should be extremely proud of their hard work and achievements throughout the term.
NSW Surf LifesavingWell done again to Alexandra H (Year 8) who, for the 3rd year in a row, was successful in being chosen as part of the Central Coast team to compete in Surf Lifesaving NSW InterBranch Championships which was held over the weekend of 30th November-1st December at Cape Hawke. Alexandra took part in a number of events with her teammates (18 of which were from her local surf club Avoca), in some very challenging surf on Saturday. Unfortunately the challenging surf conditions continued into Sunday and the decision was made to not hold any water events. Even without water events, the Central Coast team place 3rd in the point score.
Australian Figure Skating Championships
Congratulations to Amelia P (Year 8) and her NSW team that won the Australian Figure Skating Championships in Melbourne. They will now be representing Australia in Sweden for the Junior World Championships in March 2025.
