Welcome Back
Welcome back to all our students and families as we enter the second semester of 2024. I hope the last three weeks have been a restorative time for students and a good opportunity for families to connect and enjoy a different routine for a few weeks.
This week our staff have been hard at work for our mid-year professional development week. One of the key elements of both our graduate/learner profile and our teacher profile that we have at Green Point is life-long learner, that we are designed for on-going discovery of ourselves, others, the world and the Creator. As part of this we spend two intentional weeks as staff learning together and deepening our expertise in our craft as teachers.
This week’s theme has been ‘Forming Staff … Forming Students’. This is an acknowledgement that as a staff we need to continue to grow and be formed as Christian Educators, so that we might be able to better educate and prayerfully form our students to reflect who God made them to be.
This week staff have participated in training on educational coaching. This will support staff in developing a coaching way of being, as well as being able to conduct good coaching conversations and goal setting conversations. This will help support the skills of collaboration, which is also part our GPCC learner profile.
On Wednesday the teaching staff attended the CSA State Conference held at Wyong. The theme for the day was, 'who are we becoming'? We heard from Mark Ryan on what is currently shaping our, and our student’s identity and from Rev. Dr Melinda Cousins on understanding our formation in the light of the biblical story. It was a great day of learning and fellowship with around 800 other Christian educators from across the region.
Our other days have been full of learning and set up activities as we prepare for our students to return.
As always on weeks like this the College feels too empty without the sounds of students learning and playing across the campus and we are looking forward to next week.
We prayed this morning as a staff for all our families and our students, that we might have had a restorative break and that the transition back to school life might be smooth and full of Joy.
See you again soon.

Primary Choir - Term 3
Primary Choir will return to meeting each Tuesday morning at 8:00am in the CAPA Theatre.
We ask that students walk down the pathway next to the MPC and not walk on the road at this time, as cars will be entering school grounds. Mrs McKeown and Mrs Munro will meet students at the CAPA Theatre.
Students Leaving School Early – Parent Permission
Just a reminder to give the office as much notice as possible if you wish to collect your child early from school. The best way to give permission is to send a handwritten note with your child. They can use this note to show their teacher they have permission to leave class early and then take it to the student window staff when they sign out. We understand on occasion parents may need to book last minute medical appointments and therefore can’t write a note in time, in this case please phone the College to give permission.

Progressive Reporting
Just a reminder, and to let new families know about our Student Report process.
Throughout the year our teachers have been regularly reporting back to you on the progress on your child(ren) via the parent portal. This process is known at Green Point Christian College as Progressive Reporting. The rationale for Progressive Reporting can be found in the attached document ‘Parent Portal Progressive Reporting Rationale.pdf’. In short, educational research has concluded that students achieve better academic outcomes when they receive meaningful, regular feedback on their learning.
Step-by-step instructions on how to print the progressive report can be found in the attached document ‘Parent Portal Printing a Progressive Report.pdf’.
For a summary of your child’s achievements, we provide an End of Year Transcript. The transcript, based on a university style transcript, provides a basic overview of your child’s achievement in each of their subjects. This document is ideal for a student to use in their resume.
Step by step instruction on how to access the End of Year transcript is found in the attached ‘Parent Portal End of Year Transcript.pdf’. For a detailed insight into your child’s progress please refer to the Progressive Report.

On Thursday 4 July we held a Commerce Market Day. The students went into business, creating food and games to sell at recess. With the help of their teachers, Mr Witanowski and Mrs Schaffler they raised $644.55 for the Barbara May Foundation which provides lifesaving maternal healthcare and fistula repair in remote Africa.

Netball
On the last day of Term 2 both the Junior and Senior girls netball teams travelled to The Coast Christian School to play some friendly games of netball.
The junior girls had a convincing win with some good passing, defending and shooting to win their match while the senior girls had to be mixed with some players from TCCS to make two even teams. This too was a good game with many girls having the opportunity to play with some new friends.
Thank you Mrs Sirone for coaching the girls on the day.

GPCC Sport Teams
We are looking forward to sending our teams to a number of Gala Days and competitions in Primary this year.
Students will have a chance to trial for certain school teams over the coming terms and will need to keep a close eye on the notices and listen out for Assembly announcements for when trials will be held.
The protocol for team selection is as follows:
- Teams have at least 2-3 trials before final selection.
- Unfortunately, it is simply not possible for all children who trial to be included in final teams. It is not uncommon for up to 60 students to trial for a team that only has 10 spots available. Due to these limited spots, it is highly likely that students will miss out on making the team. We acknowledge that we have a number of skilled athletes who trial for these representative teams and we strive to give opportunity during trials for students to demonstrate their skills.
- Once teams have been chosen, they will aim to have at least one training session each week before a competition.
CSSA (Christian Schools Sports Association) Child Protection training and Risk Warning
CSSA have recommended that all adults (teachers, volunteers, parents) complete the following module on Child Protection before attending any CSSA event (trials, gala days or carnivals). Thank you

Our Junior Boys and Girls AFL teams played in the Central Coast Independent School Gala Day on Friday June 28 last term.
Each team was able to win a game and be very competitive in each of their other games. Well done to all the players for their hard work and great play on the day and at training before the day with their coaches Mr Leonard and Mr Roberton.

CIS Secondary Girls 15&U Netball
Congratulations to Emily B (Year 9) who has been selected to represent CSSA at the CIS Secondary Girls 15&U Netball Championships on Monday 19 August 2024 at Netball Central. This was quite a long process and Emily is to be congratulated on her ability and commitment to this team. Well done Emily.
Netball and Basketball vs St Phillips Christian School, Gosford
On the last day of Term 2 we hosted the whole Year 12 cohort from St Philips Gosford for a sports afternoon. After lunch, our MPC laid stage firstly to a competitive game of senior mixed Netball. Both teams were evenly matched with GPCC coming out with a 27 – 11 victory. A large crowd welcomed the next game of senior boys Basketball. Again GPCC proved the stronger team with a 57 – 35 win. Thank you to all the players, coaches and spectators for a fantastic end of term. And a special thank you to the staff and students from St Philips who were able to take the time to come to our school to play for a second year in a row.

Invitation for GPCC Alumni to our Annual Foundation Assembly
At Green Point Christian College, we have the privilege of partnering with families through the school-age years of their children’s journey. When their journey continues from the classroom to the ‘real’ world, we value being able to stay in touch and follow the news of our past students from afar. Every past student’s story is unique, with the ability to inspire and instil hope for the future in our current students.
We warmly invite our Alumni/Past students to join us on Wednesday 7 August 2024 to celebrate our 43rd Foundation Day, this is the day we set aside each year to thank God for the founding of GPCC. It is an important occasion for us to recognise the efforts and shared success of all who have attended and worked to make this College the vibrant Christian school we enjoy today.
