Well, the day has finally arrived when all students may return to school. We are so looking forward to seeing them all. It has been wonderful to have our Kindergarten, Year 1, Year 2 and Year 6 students here and a good percentage of our Year 12 students have been in working with their teachers on final revision activities.
I need to remind you that although restrictions for the general public are opening up, schools are still under very tight requirements. There are many things we cannot do as you have seen from the Return to School Roadmap. This includes things like school sport and training, music tutors being on site, assemblies, chapel, school trips and camps etc.
It will be important that your child gets back into the school routine quickly and smoothly and we do expect that for some this will take a bit of adjustment. Be patient with them as they adjust back to a new morning routine.
Expect the drop off and pick up traffic to be pretty bad to begin with. All schools are going back so traffic generally will be heavy especially in the afternoon. As we are building a shade structure over the new Kiss and Drop 3 zone, you must all use the old main carpark Kiss and Drop area, and so it will be full and slow. Be mindful of members of the public who sometimes get upset at being held up by the Avoca Drive left lane getting blocked. Spread out your pick up time. We will ensure all children are supervised until the last one is collected.
The canteen will only be taking on-line lunch orders to begin with so some snacks for break time for Secondary students will be a good idea. We will try to open it up for break time on-line orders as soon as possible. The Uniform shop remains online and with click and collect only.
Thank you for completing the survey on returning to school. We have a small number of families who for varied reasons will be delaying the return of their children. As the survey was anonymous, if you are still in that category, would you please send an email to the relevant Head of School to let them know what is happening with your child. We will be providing some work and helping those students still at home to continue learning until they return for face-to-face instruction.
We appreciate your support of what we are doing to manage the back to school process and I look forward to seeing many of you again as we return to some semblance of normality.
Phillip Nash
Principal
We welcome back on site the remainder of our students in Years 3, 4 and 5 on Monday 25 October.
Last week's transition back of K, 1, 2 and 6 was a great success and it was so wonderful to hear the laughter, giggles and squeals as different friends met each other in the playground.
Please speak with your child’s teacher if you have concerns or feel your child may need extra support in this space.
Different rules for Playtime
To keep us all safe, all students will be grouped into cohorts during play times. These cohorts or stages will be then allocated specific play spaces. All children can and will still visit our Library in their timetabled time and will be given an opportunity to be in our Library during lunch or recess times.
Increased hygiene measures are in place including increased ventilation, air purifiers, social distancing, mask wearing by staff and some students, and hand washing and sanitising.
Sick children
If your child shows any signs of being unwell PLEASE keep them at home until they return a negative COVID test or are completely better. If students arrive at school unwell, you will be phoned and asked to collect them.
Parents on site
When dropping off and collecting students from school, please remember that parents are not allowed on site. Currently we are using the Kiss and Drop 1 area in the main carpark for the collection and drop off all students. Our teachers will meet you at the bunting at the bottom of the hill if you choose to park and walk your child up to school.
Hats
Hats are compulsory for out door play. Please make sure your children have their hat with their name in it, at school each day. Students without a hat will be asked to sit under the shaded COLA during break times and will miss their play.
Canteen
Primary students are only allowed to purchase items from the canteen through an order only system. If you have not done so already, take time to familiarise yourself with the Munchery ordering system and set up your account.
Carpark
To keep our children safe it is important that parents/carers who park in the carpark to collect students, alight from their car and walk over to collect students as they will not be allowed to come across into the carpark to meet you.

Operation Christmas Child Shoeboxes
Operation Christmas Child is a hands-on way for you to bless children in need across the world by filling shoeboxes with toys, hygiene items, school supplies, and fun gifts. We collect the boxes and distribute them in the name of Jesus Christ to children living in vulnerable situations.
Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes will be handed out to Primary students in Week 4. One box per family will be given to the youngest child in the family, along with an OCC instruction brochure. If your family wish to pack more than one shoebox, please just use a shoebox from home and cover it in nice paper.
What is Operataion Christmas Child
Shoeboxes are due back at the College by Friday 12 November. Please follow the instructions on the pamphlet for the shipping cost payment.
Mr Peter McLellan | Head of Secondary
Monday 25 October 2021 marks the return to some sort of normality with students being able to be on site.
Obviously, there are still a lot of restrictions and limitations as to how we can run school, as well as the need to get everyone back into the routines and expectations we have as a College that builds our healthy learning community.
If your student started at the College during lockdown, please send them to the front of the Admin Office on Monday to meet their Year Advisor. This will allow them to have a secure and directed start to their time on campus.
We are so excited to have a lot of new students starting with us.
I want to highlight a number of things so that we move forward positively on Monday:
- Timetable – returns to normal.
- Uniform expectations return to normal – if there are issues, please make sure to write a note to the Year Advisor. Please make sure that any piercings that have occurred, meet school uniform expectations. Masks are mandatory inside for all students, therefore they must bring a mask to school.
- Students need to return to school with all required equipment including computer, pens, books, calculators, texts etc.
Please note that if your child is at home that online lessons cease on Monday, but they will be able to access work on their class TEAMS pages. Year Advisors will try to keep in touch with those students at home.
One new requirement is that we try to keep cohorts separate at breaks. We have assigned areas for Year Groups for before school, recess and lunchtime. Students must go to these areas during those times.
The following table outlines the areas available for students.

The Munchery open the canteen for business every day from 8:00am – 2:00pm
The Canteen will be operational for students from Monday 25 October 2021 for lunch orders only.
There will be no window service open to students.

Lunch orders can be placed online each morning prior to 8:30am.
Visit: www.munchmonitor.com
Username: greenpoint
Password: munch2251
Students may also place an order over the counter before school by writing their name and Year group and details of the order on a lunch bag (place money inside the bag) and placing this on the counter at the Canteen. The Canteen will issue change in the delivered order.
Please note if you include an order for recess it will be delivered in one delivery at lunchtime. We encourage you to provide recess and snacks from home for your child to keep them sustained until lunchtime.
All lunch orders will be collected by Year group monitor/s for child’s Year group and delivered to the Year Advisor to issue to students at the start of lunchtime in their designated area.
Whilst these current restrictions are in place and Year groups have been designated their own areas whilst at school, students are no longer permitted to collect their own orders and must follow these new protocols.

2021 Green Point Christian College Age Champions
This week I would like to acknowledge the amazing results of our students at our own school carnivals.
We have had three carnivals for both Primary and Secondary, with students competing for the title of Age Champion at Swimming, Cross Country and then Athletics.
Swimming carnivals were held at Mingara Aquatics, Cross Country held at Hylton Moore Oval and Athletics at Mingara Athletics Track.
There have been some very close competitions, with the Age Champion decided by only a couple of points; there has also been some easy victories as well, winning by a large margin.
Well done to the students for your efforts in being crowned Age Champions for Swimming, Athletics and Cross Country.
Due to Lockdown since the end of Term 2 and not being able to hold assemblies, we have been unable to present Age Champions for Cross Country and Athletics. These were supposed to be presented at a special Chapel Assembly and Commendation Service. They will be handed out to those recipients individually (not in an assembly) in the next couple of weeks once all students have returned.

Student Contributions in The Messenger
We encourage students to email contributions for the new section of our weekly newsletter, titled Student Voice. It may be a short story, a poem, service activity, an achievement or award (sporting, scouts, Duke of Ed etc). Please email to jcollins@gpcc.nsw.edu.au for consideration of inclusion in The Messenger.
Kiss and Drop Zone 3 for K-2 will be closed for beginning of Term 4
The College is currently installing a cantilever cover for the K-2 Kiss and Drop Zone 3 which was scheduled for the school holidays but due to delays in materials will now be undertaken during the first part of Term 4. When completed this cover will provide sun and rain protection for students waiting for pick-up in the afternoons.
Due to the delay in installation the area will remain closed to staff and students for the beginning of Term 4. This means we need to temporarily relocate Primary drop-off and pick-up back to the original Kiss and Drop Zone in the main carpark. We reiterate that to begin with this temporary change only effects those who need to have their children at school for the start of Term 4.
Site fencing will remain in place at Kiss and Drop Zone 3 during construction to ensure students and staff are not able to access the area.
If the installation is not completed by the time all students return to school in late October and early November, we will then communicate a further update to drop-off and pick-up arrangements.
Once installation for Kiss and Drop Zone 3 is completed we will revert back to the normal pick-up and drop-off arrangements for K-2.
Please direct any questions regarding this change to community@gpcc.nsw.edu.au

Exiting the Gate 4 Roundabout
The recent addition of the P4 parking area and Gates 3 and 4 exits have brought great relief to the College parking and access options. However, we have observed that when the traffic is flowing fast in the morning, or is built up in the afternoon, crossing the two lanes of traffic at the Gate 4 roundabout can take some time to gain access onto Avoca Drive.
Therefore, for safety reasons we are encouraging those exiting P4 and heading towards Kincumber to exit from the top exit (Gate 4). For those heading to Saratoga/Davistown or Green Point we recommend driving down to the new main entrance (Gate 3) to exit there.
As always, we encourage our families to be conscious of other drivers on the road and to show respect and courtesy whilst exiting the school property.
