Last week our Year 6 students travelled down to Canberra to spend time exploring our capital and understanding something of our democracy. On their tour of Parliament House, they were complemented by the tour guide. GPCC teacher, Mr Turner reported that, “Our guide at Parliament House said that we were the best school she’s ever had and asked us to tell our principal. She complimented their manners and their engagement in answering questions.” What a great group of ambassadors they have been for GPCC and well done to the families who have brought them up with such good manners.
Sadly, we have a small group of students who don’t seem to have such good manners. We have been experiencing a spate of toilet vandalism in Secondary with broken equipment, toilet rolls stuffed into the toilet bowls and graffiti on the walls. We also had some charge points in the study tables in the library ripped out of their sockets and stolen. What a contrast this is! We are on the trail of the vandals and know we will identify them and deal to them appropriately.
This is the tale of the human race. We can rise to such heights of goodness and yet sink to such depths of depravity that it is hard to comprehend how one race can contain such contrasts within it. For Christians the explanation is found in the story of the Bible. God created human beings as good people but able to do wrong if they so chose. They did so choose, and brokenness entered the world and has remained. God however is a god of restoration and so provides, through his own Son, Jesus Christ, a way to restore broken humans. When we recognise our brokenness and disobedience to the Creator’s way, and seek his forgiveness, he restores us and enables us to begin again to learn how to live in accordance with his pattern for us.
Our hope for the students who are vandalising our school property, is that by being caught and confronted with their actions, they will choose to recognise that this is not the right way to live and will want to live differently. The Bible tells us that God’s laws about how to live are like a schoolmaster driving us toward what is right and confronting us with what we are doing wrong. Not the greatest picture of a teacher perhaps but not totally off the mark.
I have been doing some cover classes lately because of staff absences and a lack of casual teachers and in every class, I encounter those who do the right thing and get on with their work and those who push the boundaries. This is to be expected because we are all fallen and prone to disobedience. Our role as parents and teachers is to work with our children to help them see that following God’s pattern for human existence is the best way to live – he is after all our designer!
Well done to the Year 6’s who have represented all that is the best in our school and our world. We want that to be the model for all our students.

Online Activity
Increasingly we are finding that many of our students are allowed to watch content that is unsupervised and well above their age range. This is extremely dangerous and impactful. Parents and carers play a key role in guiding their children as they the online world and begin to learn through exploration, play and social interaction. One of the areas I am most asked about from parents is “How do I ensure my child plays games with age-appropriate content?” The E-Safety commission has lots of good advice.
The following sites/lnks below are highly recommended and can help you make informed decisions about your family’s entertainment choices.
- Check age ratings and consumer advice for apps and games on devices your children use: via the App Store or Google Play, and for movies and games, the Australian Classification Board’s online database.
- Commonsense Media offers a database of apps, games and websites searchable by age and is an excellent resource.
- The Australian Council on the Children and the Media provides reviews of movies, apps and games, including gambling content advice, searchable by age and platform.
- Raising Children Network has advice about choosing video games, online games and apps.
- The Australian Council on the Children and the Media provides reviews of movies, apps and games, including gambling content advice, searchable by age and platform

Student visited the Australian War Memorial, Parliament House, The National Museum and Art Gallery as well as the all time favourites of Questacon and Laser Tag. A HUGE thank you to our year 6 teachers for all of their preparation and going the extra mile to ensure our students had a wonderful time away.

Mr Peter McLellan | Head of Secondary
We are rushing towards the end of Term 2. It has been a busy term and students are beginning to show the strains of another long term. It is important that we continue to focus right through to the end of term. I would like us to really stay focused in each of the following areas.
- Classwork - staying focused and concentrating in class at this time is vital as many subjects are focused on assessment tasks that are due in the next few weeks.
- Attendance - getting to school and class on time is important as it sets good habits and outcomes for students.
- Community – being kind, understanding and generous with each other and helping each other in the things that we collaborate on.
- Uniform – students need to be wearing correct uniform in these colder months and it is uniform where standards can slip.
Excursions
It is great to have excursions running again this year. Two issues have begun to create problems. Students will need to wear the correct uniform when they go out of the school as they are representing the College. Every permission notification will outline which uniform is to be worn on the day and students need to comply with those expectations. If a student is in incorrect uniform, they will not be able to attend.
Also, pick up times need to be followed. We will try and update if there is a big discrepancy between indicated times and the actual return time. But there are often situations where students have not been picked up for an hour after the return time requiring staff to remain until parents arrive.
Year 10 Boys AIM Mission Trip
From Friday 3 June to Friday 10 June a group of six Year 10 students travelled to Far West NSW to partner with some of the local pastors to bring the Gospel message to these communities. The boys spent most of their time in Brewarrina and Gulargambone but also visited the towns of Weilmoringle, Goodooga and Pillaga. Each of the boys shared their testimony at church and youth group. They also performed a skit around the parable of the talents from Matthew 25. The boys paraphrased the parable into more local vernacular which was very fitting and well-received. There were new friendships made between the boys on the team as well as with the local youth. The boys that went on the trip were: Zuhair A, Alex B, Noah B, Daniel D, Austin M and Matthew T.

We just have the Junior Boys and Junior Girls (8,9 and 10 years) shot put to complete over the next two weeks. This is again reliant on good weather.

These will be presented together at a Chapel service early next term once all the athletic events have been completed.

THACCCSA Secondary Girls Basketball
U15's Girls Basketball Team
The Junior Girls Basketball team travelled to Broadmeadow Basketball Stadium to participate in the THACCCSA Regional Gala Day.
Our team of Years 7 and 8 students were: Elouise A, Sophie V, Scarlett S, Megan L, Isabella E, Ariella N, Bronte M and Izzy L.
We played 4 games in our pool winning each game convincingly, then played Belmont CC in the semi finals and were able to win 17-11.
The big test of the day was the Grand Final against Maitland where we played up to our potential, however, Maitland prevailed as the best team on the day 30-7.
Well done to all players on the team on the way they played and the way they conducted themselves on the day. Mr Harris
Senior Girls Basketball Team
On Wednesday 15 June the Senior Girls Basketball travelled to Newcastle to the Broadmeadow Basketball Stadium to take part in a tournament. The girls have been training each Monday afternoon in preparation for this day. All players gave it their best, going undefeated into the Semi Final game, which took us into overtime. Eloise S was fouled and made her free-throw putting the team up by 1 point with 15 seconds left to play. Lacey E cemented the win into the Grand final with a jump shot which gave the team a convincing win. Unfortunately, despite a tough match, the team lost in the Grand Final by 4 points. It was a joy to watch them play and fight for each other on the court. Coach Darren and I couldn’t’ be prouder.
Congratulations to: Grace C, Lacey E, Lauren G, Lotus G, Gemma G, Jessica H, Grace H, Ruby J, Gemma L, Eloise S, Codie W, Sophie V.
Mrs Beaman
THACCCSA Secondary Boys Futsal Gala Day
On Wednesday 5 June GPCC participated in the Christian schools State Futsal Gala Day.
The Junior Boys started off with a comfortable win to let every other team know that they GPCC have a legitimate chance of winning the competition. After comfortably making the semi-finals they had a tough game against Charlton which ended in a 2-2 draw. This sent the game into a penalty shootout with the GPCC Boys prevailing 2-1. The Grand final paired them against a strong Belmont side. Both teams played their hardest but unfortunately Belmont managed to sneak a second half goal and hold onto the lead to win the game 1-0. It was a great effort form the Junior Boys to finish the day runners up.
The Senior Boys first game was against Maitland and they knew were going to be a team to watch the whole day. With a very lethargic start, the boys took a while to finally get going and unfortunately lost this opening game. From then on, however, the Senior Boys clicked into gear and progressively got better throughout the day. With a semi-finals birth against a team that they had previously drawn against in the group stage, the boys went 3-0 up at half time and managed to hold onto the lead to finish the game 3-2. This pushed the boys into the Grand Finals against Maitland who were undefeated until now. Unfortunately, the Maitland team proved too strong again and were victors at the end of the second half whistle. The Senior Boys put in a great effort till the end and came away smiling after having a great day, emerging runners up.

Concert Band Perform at Primary Assembly
The Concert Band did a stellar job performing for the Primary school on Friday morning. Despite having several key musicians away sick, and their conductor, having to step in on tenor sax to cover some parts, the band played with joy and confidence. We warmed up with Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody, then the jazz classic Summertime, and finished with a choral piece called 'For the Beauty of the Earth', which we found out has a special place in Mrs Smith's heart! We are looking forward to our next concert at the Week 10 Secondary School Chapel service.
