Schools by their nature are busy places. Green Point is a busy school with a constant buzz of things going on: excursions, assemblies, lessons, camps, competitions and plays to name just a few of the extensive and vibrant range of activities that are on offer. It is a delight to move around the campus and view all the rich learning experiences that are going on.
If you are like me, you may from time to time get caught up in the busyness and become for a while at least a ‘human doing’ rather than a human being. I am also very susceptible to that kind of mindset. The temptation can be to respond to every query about how I am going with, “good but busy.” I recently noticed myself saying that again, so I have banned myself from using the word busy.
But why are we as human beings like this?
I think it is because we often find our meaning and our belonging in our work and in our busyness rather than in other more valuable things. Australian’s are known as a nation of workaholics as we continue to strive to lift ourselves up and to find our own meaning in either our work or in the things that our work can buy. Working like this is tiring and is leading to increases in stress related illness and a reduction in our mental health.
So, what is our response to this? So often it is to work extra hard so we can have that holiday and recover!
Jesus talks about another way to deal with busyness and rest. He talks about resting in Him. He says;
"Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you'll recover your life. I'll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me — watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won't lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you'll learn to live freely and lightly."
The unforced rhythms of grace! What a wonderful sentiment. How often do we endeavour to force life to happen, to bend it to our will? Jesus says to us “stop and rest in me the Creator. But don’t only rest in me but work in me also and you will learn to live freely and lightly.”
This is an incredible promise and an equally big challenge! As we do all the things we need to do, here at Green Point we also need to embrace this challenge ourselves as staff, and encourage our students, to continually centre our life, our identity, our value and our belonging in the rhythms of Jesus, and not get caught up in simply, 'being busy'.

Building resilience in children as parents can be tricky. We can be quick to step in when our children are experiencing conflict. As part of our UR Strong program we are teaching children how to navigate friendship fires and deal with conflict, and as a result become more resilient and capable of dealing with tricky relationships. When to Step-IN and when to Step-BACK has some helpful advice for parents when children are experiencing problems.
Another great resource for parents is Triple P Parenting, which has a range of free online parenting courses for parents of babies up to parents of teens.

Visit from Mrs Harris
At staff devotions we had a lovely visit from Mrs Amanda Harris, who taught at GPCC for 18 years in the Primary school. Amanda and her husband are living and serving in Kathmandu in Nepal. Amanda works as a school teacher and her husband, Greg teaches at a Bible College. It was wonderful to hear Amanda share with our staff about their work and ministry in Kathmandu, and that we can continue as a College community to pray for them.
Writing your resume
We are currently in the process of meeting with Year 11 students who would like to be considered for a prefect role in 2025. Each student fills out an application form, has an interview and participates in a Leadership Training day run by Kylie McGillivray from MAF (Mission Aviation Fellowship). This provides students with a variety of opportunities to demonstrate their abilities that would be useful for contributing to a team of prefects.
The true application process, however, begins much earlier. From their first day of Secondary school, students are showing us their character traits in how they approach their schoolwork, how they treat others and their willingness to be involved in the life of the school.
You are writing your resume every day. Not just for prefect roles but in all areas of life. As an example, students are telling their teachers and parents how trustworthy they are through their actions. Developing a trustworthy character is beneficial to students when they ask to be put into positions where they would like to be trusted in the future.
At times, a student’s actions are not aligned with their character. It is important for them to be showing through their actions who they really are. I encourage students, if they want to be seen as hardworking, responsible, honest and kind to show these characteristics each day in their actions.

THACCCSA Metro Cup- Soccer and Netball
On Wednesday 19 June we had four teams compete at the THACCCSA Metro Cup in windy Maitland for both soccer and netball. All teams were looking forward to playing in this event, as it is one we have performed traditionally well in and yesterday was no exception.
Netballs Teams
Both girls’ teams won enough pool games convincingly with tight defending and accurate shooting albeit in challenging conditions where the wind played its part. The girls overcame this to make it through to the semi-finals where unfortunately they got beaten. The Senior girls lost by only 1 goal. So close!
Thank you to Miss Cooper and Mrs Sirone for training and coaching the teams for the day.
Report from Mrs Sirone
On Wednesday the Junior girls travelled to Maitland for the Metro Cup netball. After a tricky run with so many training sessions being rained out, the girls were keen to give it their best. Our Year 3/4’s certainly did that! Plenty of determination, skill and teamwork was shown from each and every girl on the court.
We played 4 hard-fought games throughout the day, displaying some wonderful skills. During the pools games the girls were dominant, coming away with impressive wins to Wyong and Coast Christian, narrowly going down against Midnorth Coast. In the Semi Finals we came up against Belmont, who have always been tough competition and unfortunately our day ended there as we lost by only a few goals.
I look forward to seeing each of the girls continue to grow in their skills and love of netball over the years to come. The girls should come away from the day with their heads held high as they played spectacularly and were respectful at all times to officials, each other and their opponents.
Thank you to all the parents who helped with travel and equipment, scoring, and who continued to cheer the girls on throughout the duration of the day. Thank you also to Mr McSwan for your organisation.
It was a privilege to coach the girls this year.
Thank you to Samara W, Maisie B, Taya K, Anna C, Annie B, Piper J, Isla A, Scarlett F, Sam D and Esther M.

Soccer Teams
Mr Brown and Mr McSwan had the privilege of coaching such a talented group of players throughout the day. We began with our warmups and pep talks and a tough first up match against Wyong for the Seniors and Coast for the Juniors. The Senior boys lost this match but improved to win their remaining 3 Pool games and then eventually lose in the semi in a well fought tussle by only 1 goal.
The Junior team played so well throughout each game scoring goal after goal after goal and winning 3 out of 4 games. The team met Belmont in the semi and won 2-0, meaning a match against old foes Wyong in the GF. As expected, it was a hard-fought contest with GPCC having many chances to score but just couldn’t make the ball hit the back of the net eventually losing 1-0.
Such a huge effort by all the players and a huge thank you to Mr Brown and all the parents that supported both the netball and soccer teams on the day.
Congratulations girls and boys on representing the College with pride.
Mr McSwan

Athletics Training
Congratulations to our GPCC Primary Athletics Zone squad that will compete at the THACCCSA Zone carnival early next term. Remember to try and get some training done between now and then. Some suggestions include:
- Going for a run/sprint at the local oval or on the beach.
- Going down to the local oval and practicing your starts.
- Going to the beach and doing some jumps in the sand or finding an oval that has a long jump pit.
- I’d also be happy to lend our shot put and discus competitors a shot put or discus for safe practice, but these will need to be returned after the carnival. Let me know if you would like to borrow one.
There’s always lots of things you can do to maintain your fitness and be ‘ready’ for the carnival.

GPCC Sport Teams
We are looking forward to sending our teams to a number of Gala Days and competitions in Primary this year.
Students will have a chance to trial for certain school teams over the coming terms and will need to keep a close eye on the notices and listen out for Assembly announcements for when trials will be held.
The protocol for team selection is as follows:
- Teams have at least 2-3 trials before final selection.
- Unfortunately, it is simply not possible for all children who trial to be included in final teams. It is not uncommon for up to 60 students to trial for a team that only has 10 spots available. Due to these limited spots, it is highly likely that students will miss out on making the team. We acknowledge that we have a number of skilled athletes who trial for these representative teams and we strive to give opportunity during trials for students to demonstrate their skills.
- Once teams have been chosen, they will aim to have at least one training session each week before a competition.
CSSA (Christian Schools Sports Association) Child Protection training and Risk Warning

Rugby Union
On the June long weekend Rugby Union players from all over the state met to fight out the State and Country Junior Rugby Union Championship titles. GPCC boast a number of talented players who represented Central Coast Junior Rugby Union (CCJRU) in their age group.
Isaac J of Year 8 was selected on the CCJRU Under 14s representative team and travelled to Dubbo to battle out the State and Country titles with 25 other under 14s teams from across the state. Isaac’s team played 7 huge games through the weekend and did so well, getting stronger in each game. Isaac played in the backs and on the wing, stopping many potential tries putting his body on the line. They fought hard and finished 6th in Country and equal 12th in the State out of the 25 teams.
Matilda L of Year 9, who is part of the reigning Under 16s State and Country Champions, travelled up to Coffs Harbour to defend their titles. The U16s girls played like the super stars they are, Matilda as flanker, and won every single game they played. They are now the undefeated Under 16s State and Country Champions for the second year in a row.
Mitchell R and Blake L in Year 9 travelled to Maitland representing the CCJRU in the Under 15s team. Their team played seven games over three days against the strongest teams in the State. While the boys couldn’t emulate last year’s result by winning the Country Title, they played some really great rugby, finishing third. Blake L unfortunately couldn’t play due to an injury but came up to watch and cheer on his mates.
It has been announced by NSW Country Rugby Union that Mitchell R has been selected for the NSW Under 15s Country Team. Congratulations Mitch.
Congratulations to Mitch, Blake, Isaac and Matilda, we are very proud of you all.

CSSA State Netball Gala Day
Juniors girls were undefeated in their pool, worked incredibly together and their games only got better. They won the quarterfinals convincingly, and unfortunately lost by 1 in the semi-finals to the team who ended up winning the day. The girls put in a massive effort, playing a total of 9 games.
Mrs Stewart
Our Senior girls’ netball team was full of fresh faces who competed to the best of their ability. The gala day was filled with excitement and competition, showcasing the talents and efforts of the whole team. Although the Seniors did not make the finals, their behaviour, positive attitude, and effort on the court greatly impressed me. They represented GPCC very well and I’m very proud of them. Well done to Savannah D, Zara L, Jess H, Jess L, Claire H, Sophie C, Alyssa M, Emily R, Grace R and Talia M.
Ms Raeside

CSSA Secondary Girls Squad Annoucement
Congratulations to Emily B (Year 9) who has been selected as part of the 15&U CSSA Netball squad to attend the Final team selections on Friday 28 June at Pacific Hills CS. She trialled at the CSSA Netball gala day this week and was selected based on her performance.
Girls Rugby 9's
Our Secondary school hosted an exhilarating Girls Rugby 9s Day, showcasing incredible determination and bravery. The team faced mixed results on the field, with a hard-fought victory, an exciting draw and a challenging defeat. Despite the ups and downs, every player demonstrated remarkable bravery and skill, particularly for those who were playing against girls much bigger and older than them and those that had never played before. There were powerful tackles and stunning tries, the girls left everything on the pitch and made Green Point proud.
Mr Heard
Years 7 & 8 Central Coast Oztag Gala Day
On Thursday 20 June, our Junior Boys and Girls Oztag teams travelled to Tuggerah Regional Sports fields to play in the Central Coast wide Gala Day.
The Junior boys won their first two games against MacKillop and North Lakes and then had a 5 all draw with St Edwards college. The boys finished with a narrow loss to Berkley Vale and were narrowly bumped out of the quarter finals on for and against. A fantastic effort by the boys considering they had no substitutes for the day.
The Junior girls team had losses to MacKillop and Lake Munmorah, then defeated BWSC convincingly. They finished with a narrow loss to CCAS and missed the Quarter Finals also. Well done to all the girls.
