I am writing this article from our 1200 acre school property in the Brewarrina Shire. As part of our application to the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) to open a school here in 2023, I had to be present at an inspection of the two sites we are proposing to use for the school.
A reminder that our 1200 acre property contains a small boarding school with staff housing that was run by the Seventh Day Adventist group until mid 2019 when the school closed, and they put it on the market. We have also purchased a large house in the township which is 35 minutes away to run the Kindergarten to Year 2 classes and the older students will bus down to the school site each day. The house in town obviously needs renovating to be set up for school use and requires a Development Application (DA) for a change of use. It has been a slow process to get the DA submitted as it is not easy to get consultants who need to do site visits to come out to a remote town like Brewarrina. Please pray for us as we work with NESA to see if we can get approval to use both sites next year. It is possible that without an approved DA by the end of August, they will only approve the school site as it already has approval as a school.
This is not a huge issue, but it does mean for at least a term next year we would need to bus all students down to the site and we were hoping to avoid the youngest ones having to do that trip each day. The NESA Inspectors were positive about our plans, and we are almost certain to get approval to start next year at least on the school site.
Being here again inspires me as I think about the possibilities for our students to experience a place like this, so different from the Central Coast. We have already had three small groups of students out here this year and all say what a great experience it has been for them. Not only do they get to see and experience Australia’s farming outback, but they get to meet Aboriginal young people and adults and connect with them. This helps to dispel the myths that so often surround groups of people we know about but have no real contact with. As we develop programs for our students out here, it will certainly include time with the local students in the school and learning about local history and culture.
Places shape us and challenge us as anyone who has travelled extensively knows. By taking our students out of their usual environment and putting them in a place very different from that, it causes them to question their current thinking and perceptions and with the help of good mentors, can be a life-changing experience. This is what we hope Brewarrina will be for our students.

As we come to the end of another term, I would like to thank our amazing teachers for the work they have done in planning engaging learning experiences, adjusting learning to accommodate the many students away each day, attending gala days, camps and excursions and encouraging our students in their learning.
Our students also have worked hard this term, many also battling colds and flu. My hope and prayer for each family is that you are able to enjoy a healthy, fun holiday together. School returns for all students on Thursday 21 July.
Semester One ReportsOur Semester One reports will be sent out at the end of Week 10 and there will be opportunity to have a parent teacher interview to discuss the reports with your core teacher on Tuesday 26 July (Week 2 Term 3). More information about how to book your appointment will be emailed out early next term.
Write On Competition
All of our students in Years 2-6 participated in 2022, Write On Competition. Students were required to create a written response to the stimulus image below:
I would like to congratulate our Stage Finalists: Lilah E (2D), Piper L (4BK) and Ellen B (6MR). These students will have their entries submitted to NESA to be judged against entries from across NSW.
Please take time to read their beautiful writing.
Calling all those handy with a glue gun, sewing machine or paint brush. We are looking for helpers to assist with set design and costume assembly for our musical. Any and all assistance will be appreciated, and clear direction and kits can be distributed to work on at home or busy bees at school. Year 2 Excursion
Year 2 was blessed with a perfect winter’s day as we explored the Bulgandry Aboriginal Art Site in Kariong. We enjoyed the beautiful bush environment and were amazed at the rock carvings that helped us to learn about the life of the Darkinjung people who lived there so many years ago. We finished our lovely day with an exploration of the Gosford Waterfront Park with its tidal pool and rock formations that have been created to reflect the Bulgandry art site. Thank you to our amazing parents who came along to help on our exciting day.

Mr Peter McLellan | Head of Secondary
Term 2 is also at an end and for some it is coming in a hurry. I hope that you all have a great break and students come back refreshed and ready to face the challenges of Term 3.
For Year 12 this break is vital. Major Works need to be a focus for those doing practical subjects. Study for the HSC Trials need to a priority for all of Year 12. Yes, there does need to be some down time but if these few weeks are not used wisely, Year 12 students put themselves at a disadvantage and increase their stress levels.
I had the privilege on going on the Year 12 Standard English excursion to The Rocks where they went on 'The Rocks Aboriginal Dreaming Walking Tour', and then see the Major Works of our Aboriginal Studies students displayed in the Library in the evening. Both were a rewarding and challenging experience. To really understand another culture, it starts by listening to stories. I would challenge us to listen more and judge less.
Year 12 English - The Rocks Aboriginal Dreaming Walking Tour
Our Year 12 Standard English students participated in The Rocks Aboriginal Dreaming Walking Tour. This supports their current HSC study of First Nations poet, Ali Cobby Eckermann and was also a great way to build memories and connections with each other and their teachers.
Chapel/Life Special Guest
This week at Chapel Life we had the privilege of having Puna Rasaubale speak with the students. He shared his story of growing up as the son of a Pastor and being a professional rugby league player and boxer. Puna explained how on Sundays he would go to church, however Monday to Saturday he lived for himself, he joined a gang and started doing drugs. He shared how he always knew about God but never had a relationship with Him. Puna said his life was on a downward spiral. It was at this point that Puna cried out to God and for the first time in his life he experienced God. Puna made a commitment to put God first in his life, after this, God began to restore his life. The students enjoyed listening to Puna and it was exciting to see many respond to the Gospel.
HSC Aboriginal Studies Display Night
Well done to the Year 12 Aboriginal Studies class – their Major Projects were spectacular at the Display Night.
"I would like to congratulate Mrs Amber Erasmus on her achievement with this group of students. It was clear at the Display Night evening that each student has enjoyed the course and been challenged by it. Well done!" Mrs Fiona Fordyce - HSIE Co-ordinator

Central Coast Rugby 7's
The under 12's Rugby Union side had a short trip to Erina Leagues Oval to participate in a Central Coast 7's competition.
The Years 5 and 6 students were well led by Isaac J and Jacob L both acting as team captains.
In the first game against one of four Central Coast Grammar teams, the boys narrowly went down 4 tries to 3, a great effort as it was the first game of rugby for many of them.
In the next two games, the boys stepped up and showed a great improvement forcing a 3-3 try tie against a strong St Patrick's side. Followed by a 9-0 try win against Mackillop Christian College leaving us 2nd in our pool and just missing out on finals.
The 2nd vs 2nd match-up was against another Grammar side with more size than the previous. The boys showed a strong determination in defence with big tackles that lead to turnovers and easy tries on offence, winning the match 5 tries to 3.
Team: Xavier B, Ethan D, Josh F, Cameron H Y, Fletcher J, Isaac J, Harry K, Jacob L, Miller P, Tobias S and Noah W.
A big congratulations to the team for a great effort.
Mr Chad Sneyd

NNSW Primary State Futsal tournament
On Monday, our Senior Primary Boys Futsal team competed at the NNSW State Futsal Championships. This competition is for the top Futsal teams who finished in the top 2 of their Regional tournament. Our Senior Boys team won the Central Coast Tournament last term and now were ready to compete at State.
Their first game was a tough one against Newcastle Grammar. Our boys began with solid passing and good teamwork, providing a number of scoring opportunities. Once we took an early lead though, we didn't turn back, scoring several more goals and winning 4-1. It was a good start to their State campaign.
St Phillip's was their second opponent and we started fast. Brilliant and precise passing was important here and our boys did exactly that, putting together some superb plays to score a number of fantastic goals. The final score line was 10-0. A convincing win that put them in a good place for their pool.
Their final match was against Bishop Tyrell, who was a very strong opponent. This game was a tough one, with both teams defending and attacking well. Once Bishop Tyrell scored twice, our boys were unable to find the equalisers, and went down 2-0. It was a hard loss and one the boys didn't want to repeat.
We finished second in our pool and now had to play in the Semi Final against the top team from Pool A. This turned out to be Waratah.
The Semi Final was a great game. Our boys took their game to another level, playing absolutely superbly. They provided a number of great scoring chances due to spot-on passing and their defense was brilliant. After we scored an early goal, we went on the defensive and held out Waratah with some amazing tackles and phenomenal goalie saves. We finished 3-0 up at the end of full time and were ready to take on the Final.
If you thought the Semi Final was a great game, then the Final went to a whole new level. It was a battle, one where both teams gave 100% in everything, from passing, tackling, diving saves, dribbling, shots, you name it. It was one game that was so tense from the opening whistle to the final siren.
Our boys were focused and pumped from their Semi Final and came out firing. We again scored early through Levi and then defended everything. Our scrambling defense by Luca and Chase was worth seeing, as it was just sensational. They were able to provide cover for every attacking wave. Jacob, who was our goalie, stopped every single shot. He was unbeatable in goals. Our forwards, in rotation, from Noah and Jaxon, to Xavier and Levi, to Zain and Josh, peppered the goal with attacks and pressure. They all played like they had been playing together for years.
With a 1-0 lead, we needed to keep providing pressure on their goals as well as defend our own. With the tension building, and pressure mounting, it needed something special to cement this victory. It came in the form of one of the best goals on the day. Luca drilled a spectacular shot from outside halfway, passed the goalie, into the goal. It was phenomenal!
Once the full-time whistle went, we had won 2-0 and were now State Futsal Champions. YES!!
Congratulations to this team of boys who gave everything on the day and demonstrated what teamwork can do.
Team: Xavier B, Chase C, Zine F, Josh F, Jaxo H, Jacob L, Levi S, Noah W, Luca W

Meet Catherine Lamey – Piano Tutor
Each week in the newsletter we will be meeting one of the wonderful music tutors at GPCC. This week is Catherine Lamey - Piano Tutor.
Catherine has been teaching piano on the Central Coast and in various Sydney schools for over 20 years. She has taught students from early ages to adults and from beginners to the more advanced levels. She encourages students to play music just for fun, to simply enjoy learning an instrument or to set a goal through aiming for higher levels of proficiency through examinations up to AMusA level.
Music has always been a passion and an integral part of Catherine’s life, studying piano with renowned pianist Gerard Willems. Encouraged as a young child to learn piano, she realised the value of a musical education along with the power of music through developing her piano skills as a teacher, training in music as therapy and singing in various community choirs.
Since starting tutoring at GPCC last Term, Catherine has been hard at work preparing her students to perform in an online concert for their parents and fellow piano students.
Private Music Tuition and Bands are now up and running for 2022.

40 Year Anniversary Thanksgiving Service
SUNDAY 7 AUGUST 2.30PM
2022 marks the 40th Anniversary of the first year of school for Green Point Christian College with the first class meeting on 17 February 1982. Seventeen primary students came to class with one teacher in the rooms above the Little Coasties Preschool. Today we have 1100 students from Kindergarten to Year 12 and occupy our own premises on approximately 17 acres of land which the school has purchased over the years.
Green Point Baptist Church had the vision and courage to start a private school and have been willing to see it grow and expand way beyond what the founders had originally envisioned or probably imagined. We give thanks to God for faithful and hardworking people who have contributed to our school and made it what it is today, and we continue to develop it out of respect for those pioneers.
We invite you to join us for this special service of celebration. If you do not regularly attend Green Point Baptist Church, we kindly request you RSVP for catering and seating purposes by registering below:
