This week I am writing this article from a bus that is currently winding its way toward the snowy mountains with the Year 10 PASS students on board. Around me students are playing cards, chatting with each other and a few are listening to music or having a nap. There is a sense of anticipation as we head closer to Jindabyne and the beginning of our adventure. Later this week our Year 5 cohort will have their own adventure as they cross the dividing range to Bathurst, and a small group of Year 11 students are headed to Bali to experience a different culture as they learn and serve in a small community for women and children.
Some people can at times wonder why schools such as Green Point include excursions and camps like these as part of our curriculum. They take resource and effort and cost to undertake.
For me, these types of adventures along with the many other excursions and trips undertaken, are so vital to the Christian education we seek to acheive at Green Point.
God has created a huge world around us, and as human beings we learn through all our senses. Students need opportunities to sit in creation, to experience new and strange things, rub shoulders with people different to themselves, to gaze and travel over the horizon of the normal vista. We all need to experience things outside of ourselves and to be challenged in new and unusual environments.
For our students, this can require them to cultivate new skills, and to overcome adversity. In our world where it is currently so easy for students to be absorbed inward toward self, opportunities to look up, out, and beyond themselves are becoming even more important.
Excursions and trips are so valuable as we seek to help students develop to be socially engaged, lifelong learners and people of Godly character. The practices that students engage in whilst on these adventures, from simply living with others, to challenging themselves with new activities provide significant opportunities for both growth and experience.
Another and even better benefit, is the opportunity to experience the majesty and awesomeness of Gods’ Creation. For the PASS students this week that creation is the snowy mountains. Being in creation reminds me how creation declares God’s glory, so I will finish this weeks article with Psalm 98:
Sing to the Lord a new song,
for he has done marvelous things;
his right hand and his holy arm
have worked salvation for him.
The Lord has made his salvation known
and revealed his righteousness to the nations.
He has remembered his love
and his faithfulness to Israel;
all the ends of the earth have seen
the salvation of our God.
Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth,
burst into jubilant song with music;
make music to the Lord with the harp,
with the harp and the sound of singing,
with trumpets and the blast of the ram’s horn—
shout for joy before the Lord, the King.
Let the sea resound, and everything in it,
the world, and all who live in it.
Let the rivers clap their hands,
let the mountains sing together for joy;
let them sing before the Lord,
for he comes to judge the earth.
He will judge the world in righteousness
and the peoples with equity.

Mrs Amanda Rutlidge | Acting Head of Primary
Last week I was fortunate enough to take some time away with my family to Fiji. It was the first time that our family has travelled overseas and it was a wonderful experience for us. During our stay, we visited a Primary School in Tau, one of the villages on the west coast of the mainland. We were greeted with beautiful singing and big smiles by the students as they welcomed us into their school. They loved showing me their workbooks and learning. Even though the classrooms had no fans or air-conditioning (some didn’t even have lights!), most of the textbooks were second hand and outdated, and digital technology was unavailable, the enthusiasm the students had for learning was clear and it was obvious that the teachers were truly dedicated to each and every one of their students. I was deeply moved by the realisation of how blessed and fortunate we are here at GPCC with the abundance of resources and facilities that we have. God has given us so much to be thankful for!
Costume Making Working Bee
Some wonderful parents have been hard at work making costumes for Finding Nemo Jr and we are so thankful for them volunteering their time and skills. Our musical production is coming along nicely thanks to the creativity and dedication of Mrs McKeown and we look forward to presenting it to you next term.
Year 5 Bathurst Excursion
Our Year 5 overnight Bathurst has been a wonderful learning experience for our students. They stopped off at Scenic World in Katoomba on the way, where Uncle David did a welcome to Country, students enjoyed a turn on the highest cable car and steepest train in the world (apparently), and had just arrived at the Bathurst Goldfields at the time of writing.

Thank you for contributing to this event in support of the work of the Op Shop to the local community of Brewarrina. All your donations are greatly appreciated.
Lost property boxUnfortunately, there have been some instances of items that are clearly labelled with student’s names being taken from this box by others. As a result, the box will now be locked. If you need to check it for lost property, please see a teacher about opening it. The box is emptied and labelled items returned to students each Wednesday afternoon.
Primary Choir - Term 3
Primary Choir will return to meeting each Tuesday morning at 8:00am in the CAPA Theatre.
We ask that students walk down the pathway next to the MPC and not walk on the road at this time, as cars will be entering school grounds. Mrs McKeown and Mrs Munro will meet students at the CAPA Theatre.
Students of the Week
Congratulations to the following students:
Half time at a sporting event is a time for a team to come together and re-evaluate what they are doing. What has been working well? What unexpected challenges have arisen? What adjustments need to be made for the second half?
It is half time in our school year and a great opportunity for students to do the same. I encourage families to talk about the successes and challenges of the first semester and come up with plans for improvement.
- A more structured study, revision and homework routine
- A planner with upcoming assessments on it so work does not become last minute
- Rules over the use of social media, phones, computer games and other technology
- Time set aside for improving physical health
- Coming up with strategies to improve sleep

Year 11 Biology Excursion
The students are currently completing a depth study investigating the impacts of the proposed offshore wind farms on marine species located in the Marine Park. Students collected primary data through participating in a whale watching tour and listening to a variety of speakers about the possible impacts of the wind farm on marine species and the local tourism industry.

Year 9 Visit to Tarragal Glen
Mrs Menzies Year 9 Equip class recently visited the residents at The Manor Tarragal Glen. Our students enjoyed their conversations and taking part in an art activity with the residents.
We received this beautiful thank you message from one of their staff members:
"I just want to take the time to thank you and your students once again for visiting The Manor on Monday for morning tea.
Our residents thoroughly enjoyed the watercolour activity and conversations with your wonderful year 9 students.
All the residents were touched by the visit, had positive feedback and all commented on how well the girls interacted. It really did brighten their day.
We would love to have you back again soon."
Well done to our Year 9 students for serving in our local community and thank you to Mrs Menzies for organising this wonderful opportunity for both our students and the residents of Tarragal Glen.

NNSW State Futsal Championship
What an amazing team these girls are! This team, comprised of Scarlett S, Amelia S, Willow H, Riley D, Asha L and Zara L (supported by injured teammate Eve H) competed at the NNSW State Futsal Championships last week and were a force to be reckoned with!
They played a total of 3 pool matches, where they drew their first one 1-1, and then won the next two with 4-1 and 3-2 score lines. The girls just got better and better throughout the day. Their big asset was that they never gave up. They persevered through every game, even if things weren’t going their way. This was evident in their first game, where they were down 1-0 and came back to score the equaliser with only 10 seconds to go.
As they performed so well in the pool matches, they had now qualified for the Semi Finals. This game would be their toughest yet and one that they needed to bring their best to.
They started strongly and had numerous chances at goal. Their shooting was accurate and defence strong and it was just unlucky that they hadn’t put the ball in the back of the net. The other team also played very well and were able to sneak a goal in past a wall of defence. At the end of the first half, the score was 1-0 and our girls needed to fight back.
Our girls rallied and continued to pepper the other team’s defence with attacking raids, shots, corners. Again, we were unlucky not to score a goal with the ball just going wide or even hitting the post.
By the full-time siren, the girls had gone down 1-0. They did show what great determination they have and how they never gave up trying.
Congratulations to the whole team for your wonderful performance and for the encouragement you showed one another.
Mr Lambert
House Relays
Last Friday afternoon we were able to finally hold our House Relays on the school oval. The atmosphere was pumping with Mr Cantor in charge of the ‘tunes’ and students from Years 2-6 ready to cheer on the athletes.
Some super close racing and a crazy teacher race made for an entertaining afternoon that was topped off with an ‘all in’ dance party.
Thank you to the boys and girls and teachers for helping to make the afternoon so special.

Coaches
I’d like to take this opportunity to thank the amazing teachers that have stepped up to coach a school sport team during Terms 1 and 2. Without teachers giving up recesses/lunches to trial and train students, then these teams would not happen.

Mr McGregor- AFL
Mr Sneyd- Futsal and Rugby
Mr Brown- Soccer
THANK YOU.
Athletics Training
Congratulations to our GPCC Primary Athletics Zone squad that will compete at the THACCCSA Zone carnival early next term. Remember to try and get some training done between now and then. Some suggestions include:
- Going for a run/sprint at the local oval or on the beach.
- Going down to the local oval and practicing your starts.
- Going to the beach and doing some jumps in the sand or finding an oval that has a long jump pit.
- I’d also be happy to lend our shot put and discus competitors a shot put or discus for safe practice, but these will need to be returned after the carnival. Let me know if you would like to borrow one.
There’s always lots of things you can do to maintain your fitness and be ‘ready’ for the carnival.

GPCC Sport Teams
We are looking forward to sending our teams to a number of Gala Days and competitions in Primary this year.
Students will have a chance to trial for certain school teams over the coming terms and will need to keep a close eye on the notices and listen out for Assembly announcements for when trials will be held.
The protocol for team selection is as follows:
- Teams have at least 2-3 trials before final selection.
- Unfortunately, it is simply not possible for all children who trial to be included in final teams. It is not uncommon for up to 60 students to trial for a team that only has 10 spots available. Due to these limited spots, it is highly likely that students will miss out on making the team. We acknowledge that we have a number of skilled athletes who trial for these representative teams and we strive to give opportunity during trials for students to demonstrate their skills.
- Once teams have been chosen, they will aim to have at least one training session each week before a competition.
CSSA (Christian Schools Sports Association) Child Protection training and Risk Warning

THACCCSA Junior Girls Basketball
GPCC Junior Girls basketball team consisting of Mia D, Jiya M, Alex H, Lily D, Bonnie H, Dani H and Sienna O competed in the Division 1 tournament. After winning two games and losing to the two top teams in the preliminary rounds, the girls were able to advance to the semi finals. We came up against the number 2 team and pulled off an enormous victory 27-16. The girls then came up against the only undefeated team on the day and from the opening tip took the lead and held it for the remainder of the match, winning 26-18. A great team effort and now onto the CSSA State Champs later in the year.
A proud moment for our Junior Girls Basketball team who were named Champions of the THACCCSA Junior Girls Basketball division. Congratulations, well done.
Futsal
The Under 15s boys futsal team played in Maitland yesterday. They had a great start to the day with the boys finishing the 6 pool games undefeated. In the course of this the team suffered two minor injuries that meant subs were minimal in the Grand Final. An early goal to the opponents and hosts, Maitland, put Green Point on the back foot through the game. The boys fought through the tiredness and injury to come back 3-2 and win the game.
