Gratitude
As we move through another busy term at Green Point Christian College, I am reminded of the incredible power of gratitude. In a world that often emphasises what we lack, gratitude shifts our focus to what we have, and this shift in mindset can change everything.
Gratitude is more than saying “thank you.” It’s a posture of the heart that acknowledges the blessings around us, even in challenging seasons. Research consistently shows that practicing gratitude improves mental health, strengthens relationships, and fosters resilience. Harvard studies reveal that gratitude can enhance sleep quality, reduce depression, and even lengthen life expectancy. Neuroscience confirms that gratitude activates brain regions linked to reward and emotional well-being, creating lasting positive changes.
Psychologist Robert Emmons, a leading researcher on gratitude, puts it beautifully:
“Gratitude heals, energizes, and changes lives." It is dedication of staff who go above and beyond, and in the support of families who partner with us in shaping young lives. These moments remind me that gratitude is contagious; when we express it, we inspire others to do the same.
But beyond the science, gratitude is deeply biblical. In Philippians Paul gives thanks for those he is writing to, He also encourages us to rejoice in all things and in another section, he encourages us to be thankful and to do everything without grumbling.
At Green Point Christian College, I see gratitude lived out daily, in the kindness of students helping one another, in the dedication of staff who seek to be faithful and fruitful in all they do, and in the support of families who partner with us in shaping young lives. These moments remind me that gratitude is contagious; when we express it, we inspire others to do the same.
As habit, not just a feeling. It has the power to transform our perspective and our community.

Primary Afternoon Kiss & Drop Update
To help alleviate the traffic overflow back onto Avoca Drive in the afternoon while waiting for the Kiss & Drop to start operating, we are encouraging families arriving prior to 3.15pm to enter and park in the P3 carpark adjacent to 7-Eleven.
From Monday 27 October our friendly Green Team staff will be on location to help usher cars into and out of these parking spaces, and to assist drivers being able to rejoin the line-up as soon as the Kiss & Drop starts operating at 3.15pm.
This measure will help avoid cars blocking the Bus Bay on Avoca Drive, which has interrupted buses being able to stop for essential drop-off or pick-up at this location.
By reducing the line-up into the College, we hope to also help with the general traffic flow along Avoca Drive at this peak time.
Personal development and Health lessons this term
In Term 4, all students in K-6 will continue to be taught Personal Development, Health and Physical Education (PDHPE) by their classroom teacher.
This subject prepares and supports students to lead, and contribute to healthy, and safe lives which promote respect, responsibility, enjoyment, inclusion and social justice for self and others. Our school’s PDHPE program covers a wide range of education matters. Some of the content of the program deals with sensitive issues associated with Child Protection which will be covered during Term 4. In recognition of this we ensure that the topics are taught in an age-appropriate manner that supports the role of parents and caregivers and in line with our Christian, Biblical perspective.
If any you have any concerns, please contact your class teacher. It is our hope that these units of work will equip our students to be well informed and better equipped in the world around them.
Samaritans Christmas Box Shoeboxes
It’s that special time of year again when we have the opportunity to bring joy and hope to others through the Samaritans Christmas Box Appeal. Each year, generous families from our community fill shoeboxes with thoughtful gifts, essential items, and a little Christmas cheer for those doing it tough.
This simple act of kindness can make a big difference in the life of someone in need, reminding them that they are seen, loved, and cared for.
All shoeboxes need to be returned by Monday 27 October so they can be collected and distributed in time for Christmas.
Let’s come together to share the joy of giving and help make Christmas brighter for others this year.

Laying the Groundwork for Confidence and Success
An important message for our students is that success in the senior years of school does not happen overnight, it is built gradually through the habits and attitudes formed earlier. The study, organisation, and time management skills developed in Years 7–10 become the foundation for success in Year 11, Year 12 and beyond.
Too often, students think they can “switch on” when the HSC years arrive, but the reality is that confidence and capability come from consistent practice over time. Learning how to manage homework, plan for assessments, take meaningful notes, and study effectively are not just academic exercises, they are life skills.
Applying yourself in the earlier years of high school also helps you discover how you learn best. Some students find they retain information by rewriting notes, others by talking through ideas or practising exam-style questions. The earlier students experiment with study methods and time-management strategies, the more refined and effective these habits become by the senior years.
Parents can play a vital role in this process by encouraging consistent routines at home, set times for homework, limited distractions, and a focus on steady progress rather than last-minute cramming.
The initial years of high school are an opportunity to build the habits that will carry you through your senior studies and into life beyond school. The small choices you make now will shape the confidence, resilience and success you experience later.

CSSA Cricket Knockout Comp
On Monday, the Senior Cricket team travelled to Dural to take on Pacific Hills Christian School in a knockout game of 20/20 cricket.
GPCC had hoped to bowl first and after winning the toss we were off to a good start. The strike bowling combination of Archie H and Ethan A had Pacific Hills at 3 for 7 with some early wickets. The Pacific Hills middle order was able to steady the ship with some controlled batting and running at every opportunity to increase their total run score. GPCC grabbed some late wickets with precision bowling and fielding to limit the opposition to score under 100.
This total would prove hard to reach as our batters although valiant, were unable to match it with their fast bowlers as they claimed quick wickets and ultimately the victory with progression onto the next round.
We were able to play them again in a friendly game with our batting and bowling order being reversed, and we came away with the win. Congratulations to the entire team for the improvement you showed and excellent teamwork throughout the day.
Well done Archie H, Ethan A, Avery G, James C, Kyle M, Henry H, Max F, Vaaris M, Poppy A and Jack M.
Also, a huge thank you to Mr Brinton for attending the day.
